Simply Running “The one who wins wants to win the most” Steve Prefontaine the famous distance runner said. This not only applies to running but to life in general, the more you focus your time and energy into something the better and closer the result to what you dreamed or imagined it would be. For runners either competitive or amateur, this often means long hard training sessions, putting their body through pain, giving up favorite foods and sacrificing their time. Runners must have incredible discipline at all levels to be competitive, avoid injury, and stay healthy. diet, training, consistency, and determination all play a huge role in the difference between good runners and great runners. middle and long distance runner born Oregon January 25th 1951 attended Marshfield high school from 1966-1970(“Steve Prefontaine”). during this he won every running event he stepped up to and set a high school national record for the two mile 8 min 41.5sec(“Steve Prefontaine”). 1970 steve attended the University of Oregon where he trained with Bill Bowerman as his coach(“Steve Prefontaine”). For three years straight he won NCAA cross country Championships(“Steve Prefontaine”). Only beaten twice during his college career(“Steve Prefontaine”). In 1972 Steve entered the Munich olympics where he finished third. during his fourth year he ran three times in the mile and got beat every time(“Steve Prefontaine”). 1976 Steve trained and set american records in every 2k and 10k he ran(“Steve Prefontaine”). planning on entering the 1976 olympics sadly he died in a car accident on the way home from a party(“Steve …show more content…
