Exploring the Life of Lawyer Steve Trostle Who is Steve Trostle? Steve Trostle is currently serving out Cecil County as an Assistant State 's Attorney. Mr. Trostle’s dream job did not always consist of becoming a lawyer. He wanted to be a cop, but after a few years he felt like more could be done. So then when he started …show more content…
From 1999 to 2003, he handled thousands of misdemeanors and felonies, from the simple traffic matters to the serious felonies. In 2002 he was assigned to handle all sex offense cases involving juveniles. Trostle is actually a full-time prosecutor. He also has a small private practice out of his house, where he handles minor civil work, and takes on maybe 10-15 clients per year. As a prosecutor, Trostle`s job is really broken into 4 parts as he explained: “1) pre-charge, where I work hand in hand with law enforcement officers in deciding investigative strategies, and whether or not to charge someone criminally; 2) the charging decision, and the process of actually charging people; 3) the pre-trial prep, which includes giving defendants discovery, plea negotiations, and preparing for trial; and 4) actual trials--presenting evidence to a judge or a jury” (Trostle). I was also curious as to how the selection process for the position goes. Trostle stated that “First, you have to have your JD (law degree), and second you have to be licensed to practice in the state. Beyond that, what every elected State 's Attorney wants from his/her Assistant State 's Attorneys is someone who has a very good sense of fairness and discretion....beyond that, a firm grasp on the rules of evidence is critical” (Trostle). After hearing about the process I wanted to …show more content…
I asked him if he ever witnessed anything or encountered any type of corruption in a case, trial, or jury. He told me that he only can say, but so much however it does happens. Corruption is defined as the “lack of integrity or honesty especially susceptibility to bribery; use of a position of trust for dishonest gain”. He also gave me two books that he felt I should read that would help with my question. Some say some lawyers are known to be crooked but what does that actually mean. In many cases some druglords such as Ricky Ross “Freeway” was known for paying off his lawyers. He was the most notorious leaders for drug trafficking and having drug empires. Ricky “Freeway” Ross was a notorious crime lord on the west coast in California. In his teens, Ricky Ross had went from a small time pusher to one of America’s most profitable street dealers in history. Ross would move up from $2 million to $3 million of crack in one day over the western part and the Midwestern part of the United States. Ricky Ross had earned the name “Freeway” from all of the quarters that he had along the highway. Ricky Ross had based up crack/cocaine and dealt with them in St. Louis, New Orleans, Texas, Kansas City, Oklahoma, Indiana, and Seattle. Drug dealers have been known to get away with a lot if they have money, but in due time they shall reap. I even asked Trostle what makes a lawyer
