Upon my arrival I made contact with Whitney Anderson, who informed me of the following:
- She had received a call from Caleb Scowden this morning asking for a ride.
- She went and picked Scowden up at Lester Street and 7th Street area.
- Shortly after Scowden got into the vehicle, he started yelling at her.
- Since Scowden was yelling at her so she went to 1400 Harper Street, where her children’s father lives, to try and get help getting him out of the vehicle.
- She knocked on the door of 1400 Harper Street, however, no one answered the door.
- She tried to get Scowden out of the vehicle, however, he began yelling at her and punching and kicking her in the chest.

Scowden had got into the driver’s seat of the vehicle and was trying to drag her back into the vehicle over his lap.
- Scowden then took her car keys from her, during which he hurt her hand and wrist.
- Scowden left in her green 1999 Mercury Sable with Missouri license number YK8S4M.
- She does not know where Scowden was going he never told her.
- She and Scowden are friends.
I was later advised a Butler County Sheriff’s Deputy had conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle on East Outer Road about Hawthorn Lane.
Upon my arrival at the traffic stop I was advised of the following by Trooper Huggins who was also on scene:
- He asked Scowden if there was anything illegal in the vehicle and Scowden said yes.
- Scowden told him there was a red bag under the driver’s seat with a used needle, a new needle, and a glass pipe in it.
Trooper Huggins had retrieved the property from the vehicle prior to my arrival. I took possession of the two syringes, pipe, and red bag from Trooper Huggins.
The property was photographed and the Syringes where then properly disposed. The rest of the property was placed into evidence as 23574.
Upon the arrival of Whitney Anderson the vehicle was returned to
her.
I placed Scowden under arrest and transported him to the Poplar Bluff Police Department booking room.
During processing Scowden advised me of the following:
- He was in a bad situation so he left in Anderson’s vehicle.
- He was in the process of trying to get a hold of Anderson father to return the vehicle since Anderson was mad.
- He and Anderson are just really good friends.
Scowden was processed and lodged at the Butler County Justice Center for tampering with a motor vehicle, assault, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
