Early Life
A. Stonewall Jackson was born on January 21, 1824, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, still Virginia in his time. 1. Two years later his sister and father died of typhoid fever.
2. His mother remarried a man who did not like his stepchildren; they were sent to live with various relatives on their father’s side.
B. Jackson enrolled at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point on 1842.
1. He was frequently made fun of because of his humble beginnings.
2. This was the fuel that drove him to become 17th in a class of 59 students when he graduated in
1846.

At the end of the campaign, Jackson had won battles over armies several times larger. He won the admiration of Union and Confederate soldiers alike.
The War
C. After the Shenandoah Valley Campaign, he joined forces with General Robert E. Lee.
1. During the Seven Days Battles, Jackson surprisingly showed poor leadership skills while defending Richmond from General George McClellan’s troops.
2. He managed to redeem himself with his “foot cavalry” at the battle of Cedar Mountain.
D. At the second Battle of Bull Run, Jackson feigned a retreat from John Pope, this allowed James
Longstreet to launch a missile assault that caused Pope and his men to retreat.
E. During the bloody battle of Antietam, General Stonewall Jackson managed to hold his position for a while until he was forced to retreat.
F. In the Battle of Fredericksburg, Lee split his army into two, and Jackson, now lieutenant general, took control of the second half and led them to a complete victory.

His Death
1. General Stonewall Jackson took General Hooker’s army from the rear and caused so many casualties that Hooker had to retreat.
2. After the battle, Jackson went on to scout ahead. A regiment thought them for enemies, opened fire on JacksonH. H.Stonewall Jackson got shot and was badly injured.
