By closing the stores in the "higher" crime rate areas the business has affected the employees who worked in that area. They have also sent the message to the community that the area they were in was not "good enough" for their stores. This gives the community a sense of abandonment and also gives the community a negative opinion of the complete chain of stores. The remaining stores that are open are going to need to make up for this by giving some positive acts for the community to take notice of.…

On the other hand, America is still consuming their share of alcohol. If Publix were to open their own detached liquor store, they could draw in the patrons that they are currently losing to Albertsons and Walgreens. This would not defer the family shoppers because the liquor sore is a separate entity from the rest of Publix. Albertons and Winn Dixie are also threats to Publix because they are open later hours. It would be reasonable to expand Publix's early closing hours to accommodate those late night shoppers.…

I do not believe other retailers should close on Sundays just because Chick- Fil-A is doing so. Every business has its ways to conduct operations. I think they should develop a culture that is unique to them; something that represent company’s core values. Just because it worked for Chick-Fil-A does not guarantee it will work for others.…

“Though stubbornly high unemployment and continued uncertainty over the prospects for job growth will continue to dampen the outlook for industry retail sales growth in 2012, the retail industry will still grow at a rate faster than many other industries. This year, retail industry sales will rise 3.4 percent to $2.53 trillion*, according to the National Retail Federation – slightly lower than the pace of 2011, in which sales grew 4.7 percent. Many economists estimate that real U.S. GDP will rise approximately 2.1 to 2.4 percent. Over the last 18 months, retailers have been on the forefront of the economic recovery – creating jobs, encouraging consumer spending, and investing in America,” said NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay. “Our 2012 forecast is a vote of confidence in the retail industry and our ability to succeed even in a challenging economy. Retailers have played a key role in driving growth, but to continue this momentum we need Washington to act on proposals that will spur job creation and unleash the power of the private sector.” [ (Global Labor Rights, 2001) ] The retail industry will always be very profitable because this industry is extremely high in demand. This statement reinforces the fact that the retail industry is and will always stay saturated due to the necessity of clothes. There will always be rivalry and profitability for the retail industry because there is not just competition in this region or nation; it is based on a global market. As always, competition is important in long-term success because competition is what keeps industries adapting. With a necessity industry such as the retail industry, there will always be competition. This makes it somewhat difficult for a company’s long term success. Taking into account all the competition, there are few retail companies that will outlast their competition in a long-term setting. The retail industry is a Business to Consumer industry because they provide the goods and services…

Eventually the store would expand to fill the six-story building. Dayton, with no previous experience in the retail trade, wielded tight control of the company until his death in 1938. His principles of thrift and sobriety and his connections as a banker, enabled the company to grow. As long as he was at the helm, the store was run as a family enterprise. Every Christmas Eve he would hand out candy to each employee of the store. Obsessed with punctuality, he was known to lock the doors at the onset of a meeting, forcing latecomers to wait and apologize to him in person afterwards. The store was run on strict Presbyterian guidelines: no liquor was sold, the store was closed on Sunday, no business travel or advertising was permitted on the Sabbath, and Dayton Company refused to advertise in a newspaper that sponsored liquor ads. (Target Corporation Company, n.d.).…

    * The retail wearing industry is highly competitive, with buyer power being the strongest force. The painful materials needed for manufacturing are relatively abundant, which limits supplier power and accommodate room for price negotiating. There is low cost of entry, so the industry is flooded with competitors and knock-off substitutes, but it’s the consumer who decides what is fashionable and trendy. The system of government when states and provinces share power with a national government is called federalism. Federalism makes two close levels of government, both have the ability to act immediately on behalf of the people. It can be bad for our country or state, but can also be good in many other ways. One pro of federalism is states have control of their own policies. For example, Texas has the policy of the death penalty, and other states up north do not have this policy into effect.…

Yes they are closing stores and laying off workers, SO IS PRACTICALLY EVERYONE ELSE!!!! What would you expect a company whose business is run on disposable income to do when people stop spending disposable income. It's common sense. Plus they are only closing underperforming stores. General Electric annually cuts any program that doesn't grow by 10% that year, yet no one hates them like they do starbucks.…
