I’m happy with who I am today, just as everyone should be. But if I could change anything about myself, I’d want to have more motivation to do things. In the mornings before school I can barely get out of bed because I’m so tired and don’t want to go to school. I’m exceedingly intelligent but I don’t have any drive. I procrastinate on most of my work, and sometimes I just don’t want to do the work. Right now I’m rank 14 in my class but I could’ve been higher if I had any drive my freshman year. I don’t think about how my decisions now will impact me later and when I do, I don’t really care. I also don’t have much motivation to do things in sports activities. Last year I played volleyball and I never had that much playing time. Never being able…

One time I took a leadership role that was the most relevant to me was when I was the leader in my robotics team in high school. I needed to take the role because everyone else seemed lost and I was the only one with previous robotics experience so I told everyone if they mid if I become the group leader and no one minded. One thing I learned about myself by being the leader is I am very good at giving people specific jobs and keeping everyone on task without them getting distracted. Another thing I learned about myself is i am a strict yet fun leader because I know when its time to stop playing around and get to…

My actions are always a direct showcase of my personal characteristics. A few that are particularly important are having patience, being non-judgmental, and thinking creatively. I learned a majority of my patience through my position as a research position. Research does not have immediate results; a good experiment takes time. My seemingly menial tasks, such as entering data, eventually contributed to the final product. I learned to be non-judgmental in my time shadowing an obstetrician, where I interacted with patients with so many stories. To judge them would cause a disservice, and potentially harm them. Finally, I learned to think creatively during my time at the Guild for Human Services. Each student was unique in his or her problems,…

My story beings like any other, at the moment I took my first breath on July 30th 1998 in Bilisht, Albania. I was born in a small town in the lower region of Albania where my entire family lived with my grandparents under one household. My parents soon came to the realization that the current living situation was incongruous for a new family, such as ours, to thrive. As the result, my parents chose to apply for the government program granting our family access to move into a completely new society with new laws, regulations, political aspects and that was tens of thousands of miles away. Our family, at that instant, had a struck of luck as my mother’s name was drawn for us to move to the greatest country the United States of America.…

Personal background starts off small, it changes and grows over time into something big, it grows into an identity. Walking down the hallway at school, seeing someone standing alone, my first instinct is to make conversation, compliment, or even just smile at him or her. This instinct came from someone once telling me an act so small could turn a person's entire life around. As a kid, reading encyclopedias about random topics, consumed my time. Many days were spent coming home to find an injured wild animal in my dad's arms waiting to be saved. My dad would sit outside and draw animals, trees, and anything else he saw. Nothing excited me more than trying to draw whatever my dad drew, and as good as he did. Any assignment that was handed to…

The first time in my life that I ever experienced true anger and fear was in the sixth grade. A little before Thanksgiving Break, I was diagnosed with malignant melanoma, a type of skin cancer, in my lower back. I had a mole there that was removed earlier that year, and the test results on it had come back positive. I did not find out until later, but when my mom sat me down across from her to talk, I knew something was wrong. It was then that she told me what was going on, and I broke down in tears. I had never experienced fear such as I did then.…

It was a perfectly normal Saturday night, until I sat on the couch. I expected to enjoy a funny movie with my dad, but instead I got a trip to the hospital. I sat on the couch, and then I felt a sting in my elbow. At first, it felt like I got a shot at the doctor, but it slowly got worse, and felt more like a knife slicing into my elbow. I winced and sprung up from the couch. I squinted and my eyes scanned the spot where I just sat down. Aha, I thought. There was a small piece of plastic, and it looked like it broke off from a container.…

Throughout my life I have encountered many circumstances that have shaped me into the person I am today. I was born in Moroleon, Guanajuato, Mexico. I attended school in Mexico all the way to second grade. In the summer of 2006 I moved to Cumming, Georgia. It was the hardest thing to do because I left everything that I care the most about. We lived in a trailer which was not the nicest place and in the middle of the forest. I started school at the beginning of August. I had always loved school so I was so excited for the first day. I knew it was going to be hard because I would have to conquer so many obstacles on the way. At this time the only English I knew was probably counting from one to ten and some of the colors. My Father knew some…

Who am I? That has always been an essential question for as long as I can remember. I never really understood why we had to answer that question along the way, but I’m now a senior at SJPII and I still have no idea who I am. It really bothers me that for 16 years I still haven’t figured out who I am. Constantly going from class to class and making new friends I still can’t pin point who the “real” me is.…

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said “To be yourself in a world that is trying to make you something else is a great accomplishment”. A question such as “who am I”? Really gives me the opportunity to differentiate and express who I really am and who I can be. I am not a complex person who thinks the world is against me, nor am I overly sophisticated “know-it-all” who doesn't take time to pay attention to my surroundings. I can't say that I am like every other person because there are certain things that make me a unique individual. What I can say is that I am progressing towards a brighter future.…

Throughout the past year I have endured several life changing occurances. One of my family members troubled through the treturous stages of cancer and unfortunately has passed at this time. If I have taken anything away from this, it is that family is the most important resource in a persons life. Without those people who tell you that you can, regardless of the circumstances, becoming succesful could be very challenging. After clearing my head, I was able to start thinking of a career choice that would make me enjoy going to work. I encountered an opening at a local CVS/Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician and applied. After being hired, I immediately fell in love with the surroundings, the people, the patient interaction, and the knowledge…

My full name is Imran Bin Ariffin, the third child of Ariffin Bin Noor, a doctor posting in Hospital Gua Musang and Kamariah Binti Awang, a Biology teacher at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sultan Ismail. I have 5 siblings – three brothers and two sisters – with all of them are still studying, two in tertiary education while three others are schooling. We live in a peacefully serene village located not far from Pantai Cahaya Bulan, called Tok Dokang. About my education background, I finished my primary education at Sekolah Rendah Islam Aman (SRI Aman), a private Islamic school which integrates national curriculum and fundamental Islamic studies. Obtained 5 A’s in my Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR), I entered Maahad Muhammadi Lelaki (MML), at which I studied for only 3 months before I went to Maahad Tahfiz Sains (MTS), a boarding school in Tanah Merah. Despite the tough 4 years of interdisciplinary study – academics, Islamic subjects and memorization of the Holy Qur’an – at MTS, I managed to obtain 9 A’s in Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) along with 34 other high achievers in 2008 PMR and Mumtaz class in Sijil Menengah Ugama (SMU), 2009. The next year, I then enrolled in Sultan Ismail College (SIC), a premier school awarded Cluster School of Excellence (KSC). At SIC, I took Bahasa Arab Tinggi as an additional subject for SPM, though knowing the school do not have certified teacher to teach me the subject for I think that as a memorizer of the Holy Qur’an, it is of paramount importance for me to understand the verses and to integrate them with science. And all praise to Allah the Almighty, I managed to obtain 10 A+’s in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2010 and be among 363 other students who got A+’s for all subjects taken. This is a proof, I think, that albeit having difficulties in conforming to different cultures and education…
