Story Of An Hour By Kate Chopin

The short story “The Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin is a story about a woman, Mrs. Mallard, grieving the death of her husband, Mr. Brently Mallard, or so we thought. As we read more and more into the story, we learned that Mrs. Mallard is not upset at all over the death of her husband. In fact, she feels relieved that he is finally out of her life. However, it is revealed at the end of the story that Mr. Mallard is alive and well. It turns out that “he had been far from the accident, and did not even know there had been one.”

This short but intriguing story uses multiple literary devices to convey its meaning to the reader.
