One reason is that it shows people how awful some relationships can be. Marriages, friendships and even relationships with co-workers or other people can be harmful to the people involved. In this case with Mrs. Mallard, her husband could have been rude, physically and emotionally hurtful, treating her like property, not letting her be her own person, etc. Because they always refuse to her as “Mrs. Mallard or wife” says that she was his property. There are many more things that could have been happening in this unhappy relationship. The point behind it, is that it is important to not be a kind of person who does that. We very often hear stories of someone dying form being over joyed about something. It was intreating. The format was easy to read and the language was easy to understand, which helps in enjoying a passage. Not only was it a memorable story, but it was because of the idea behind the story. How she cried tears of joy when her husband died, and how she was so happy she had a heart attack and died. This story was not meant to be targeted towards Mrs. Mallard for being rude, but towards Mr. Mallard. The story really made you think about what he might have done to Mrs. Mallard to have made her so unhappy. The short story makes the readers think. It was effective because it is a great demonstration of all the abusive relationships that are happening all around us. With these readings and the story of Mrs. Mallard we can hopefully make wise decisions about relationships and do our best to not be like Mr.
