I believe that knowing and understanding what afflicted means would change the reaction of the story. The protagonist Mrs. Mallard, had serious heart issues. The story altogether explains how grateful the narrator would feel to be without her husband. Although, she could die at any second due to her heart trouble. That did not stop her from having her few minute of “victory” of getting away from her husband. and Mrs. Mallard did not have a happy marriage, because the story says., “And yet she had loved him – sometimes. Often she had not.” This describes how the two did not seem to care for one another. She was someone to do as they are told even though they did not want to do certain activates. “It was only yesterday she had thought with a shudder that life might be long.” When I do an undesirable activity it seems to take longer because I keep on pondering what I rather be having fun on other activity that I likes. Mrs. Mallard seems to be a middle aged women that stays at the house to do house work while her husband is out
