In the story, “The Story of an Hour”, was about a lady, Louise Mallard, who finds out that her husband passed away from a train accident. The poor lady already had heart problems so her friends try to break the news easy so the news won’t kill her.
The theme of “The Story of an Hour” is that not all relationships are the best. Being in the 1800’s, women didn’t have the freedom like we have now. Most females back then were your typical housewife. Stayed home and cleaned, cooked and did pretty much all the house chores. So when her husband passed, she looked past the sorrow and pain and realized that she is now an independent woman that can do anything she wanted now.

The point of view in the story is mostly third person. Throughout the story, it continues to use he or she through the story. For example, from the story, “she was drinking in a very elixir of life through that open window.”. There is one part towards the end where Louise, who is the main character in the story says, “Go away. I am not making myself ill.". (The Story of an Hour) In the story, “The Hills Like White Elephants”, is about a couple who are at a train station in Spain talking about an abortion. While communicating, the two seem can’t agree with each other’s opinions, thus asking for another round to change the subject. The theme for the story is all about communication. The “American” and the “Girl” can’t agree on anything, thus changing the conversation or asking for another beer. The American will tell the Girl everything she wants to hear so she will have the procedure. In the story, The
American calls the Girl a Jig. From my understanding Jig means dancing which fits perfectly in the story as they “danced around” the topic avoiding it.
The “Girl” brought up the hills look like White Elephants multiple times in the story.
What the Girl was talking about was the unborn kid that the American wants aborted. At
