The title of the book is The Story of Blima: A Holocaust Survivor. It is a true story covering the events of Blima’s life, written by her daughter, Shirley Russak Wachtel. This book tells the true story of Blima’s experiences when she was captured and sent to a concentration camp. The book includes Before the Storm, telling the life of Blima before she was captured; Darkness Falls, which tells her life as a prisoned Jew on the concentration camp; and Daylight, when her nightmare was finally over and she was liberated from the camp. First, Before the Storm shares Blima’s life before she was captured. Blima was just living the life of a normal teenaged girl in Poland. She worked at her family’s bakery, she had a boyfriend, and she practiced her Jewish faith freely. There were rumors of things happening to Jews in the surrounding cities around her, but Hitler had yet to hit her small town of Dombrowa. At this time, Blima’s biggest concern in life was that she couldn’t find her dress shoes for church. Blima complained to her mother,“My shoes, Mama. The new ones Tata gave me. I really enjoyed the book, because I think learning about the holocaust is very interesting, especially learning from the experiences of an actual survivor. A strength of the book was that it had good details of her experiences. A weakness of the book was that it went too fast at some parts, and the book was very short. I learned that Blima was a very strong person. It is important to know about Blima, because we can learn from her about how to be strong in tough

Everyone has a rough sense of what happened during the Holocaust. From a normal reader’s perspective, the most interesting parts of the book are the details of life and mental activity of the survivor during the Holocaust period. However, Wilkomirski didn't give us reliable facts, and he does not even have basic research, which hurts the reader’s feelings significantly and lowers the value of the…

However, no one can doubt that this novel does in fact have a lot of literary value. This novel has contributed a lot to nonfiction/memoir novels that are about being a victim in the Holocaust. He vividly illustrated his predicaments in the novel, and was a not afraid of being a little graphic where it was necessary. He would describe dead victims clearly, like this following excerpt: “The two men were no longer alive. Their tongues were hanging out, swollen and bluish. But the third rope was still moving: the child, too light was still breathing… And so he remained for more than half an hour, lingering between life and death, writhing before our eyes…That night, the soup tasted of corpses.” This novel contributed to the gruesome yet real category of Holocaust victim memoirs. It was descriptive enough to be like a movie playing in my head while I devoured each word. It was a real piece of literature that doesn’t let the readers forget the cruelty and torture that the Holocaust’s victims had to face.…

With the winter over, Elli’s birthday comes. She was now thirteen. Many wonderful things were happening. Jancsi Novack, her crush, said hello to her, she passed examinations, and she wrote for application forms to the Jewish Gymnasium in Budapest. Later that night, the Nazis returned to Elli’s house. They raided the whole entire house, tearing it to pieces. They took whatever they would like from the store, plus the family’s most precious belongings. A couple of nights later, Elli heard voices in the kitchens, which she came to find out is her Bubi. He had news for the family. The Germans invaded Budapest! Nobody knew anything about it. When the father came home from the synagogue the next morning, they thought something is wrong with Bubi because no one had heard anything about this invasion. They thought it was a false alarm, and they urged Bubi to return and finish his classes. They asked their neighbor, Mr. Kardos, who also had a son in Budapest, and he had heard nothing. They send Bubi on a train at 1 o’clock. At 1:20, Mr. Kardos returns to the family, saying he had news from his son that the Germans have invaded Budapest. Father felt horrible for sending his son back. The next morning, the town received the news. Two days late. Jews are being arrested on sight everywhere. “I became A-7713. After that I had no other name” (Wiesel). Imagine living in a place where you were called a number instead of your name. In Night, by Elie Wiesel, he writes that this is an everyday occurrence in his memoir about living in concentration camps. This novel tells readers exactly how it was living in a concentration camp at every hour of the day. Wiesel explains his journey from days before he was taken, all the way to the day the war ended and he was able to get out of the concentration camp. Originally, Elie wrote an 800 page story in Yiddish, but one of his kin edited it making it into the story it is today. Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the Holocaust or curious about what it was like.…

The imagination I come across all starts with Ms. Bernstein’s, her whole life is pretty much what the book is about not just the Holocaust. In my opinion it made her personal experiences so real. Ms. Bernstein’s talks about her childhood, schooling, family and how she traded. Ms. Bernstein’s was very detailed about her tragedies. The only thing I didn’t like about the book was that Ms. Bernstein was very detailed during her horrific experiences.…
