An example of the component of strain theory failure to achieve your goals is if a minority adolescent loses a part in a play because the main character is a different race even if the teenager was a better actor out of the other people who auditioned for the same part. In this example, the adolescent experience goal failure because they were not the same race as the character they auditioned for. This also shows the loss of positive stimuli when did not get the part in the play. By experiencing this component of stain the juvenile might retaliate or adapt to this stress through crime and delinquency (Peck, 2011).
