military technology would have affected civilians due to the frontlines developing within civilian populated areas. Unlike militarily involved countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States of America, who entered in 1941; due to the geographical positions of these allied countries they were not affected by most land technology. Yet, the development of bombing strategies, aviation and naval capabilities allowed for enemy forces to affect even these isolated countries. Bombing became a heavily used tactic during the war, with huge bombing campaigns becoming a norm. The German offensive on Britain was one of bombing major cities and military factories. ‘At Bath the numbers known to have been killed in two air raids were 148… and the…
America would bomb Germany throughout the day and Britain would bomb Germany throughout the night. Air planes dropping bombs was not the only change that made this war so much more destructive. This war lead to the war weapon advancements such as tanks, which were used to storm and take over cities which torn cities and towns apart. This war also included a lot more ships than ever before, in fact warships were in the thousands. Along with Air planes, ships and tanks, you need something to destroy them so now they had made huge cannons to shoot these war machines and blow them up. The numbers of these new war weapons could possible explain why the was so destructive with Almost a half million air planes, eight thousand war ships, two-hundred thousand tanks and half a million artillery cannons, it was almost destined to be destructive. Then when you would think the war could not get any more destructive the Manhattan project was put together an Atomic bomb that would be dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. These bombs would deal so much damage it would completely end the war with…
B-17’s had been greatly upgraded since their first use in Europe by the British and with an improved bombsite this first mission proved much more successful. The initial missions conducted by B-17’s in Europe were tactical bombings against manufacturing and military installations within the range of escorting fighters (Bowers 1976). However, in late 1943 B-17’s based in Italy were able to conduct strategic bombings into the previously unreachable heart of Germany. Strategic bombings allowed the Allied forces to target Germany’s industry and resources, hindering their ability to bring fuel, ammunition, and replacement weapons to the front lines. Strategic bombing into Germany did not come without its consequences, as many B-17’s were lost due to substantial and effective German fighter planes. These losses led England to abandon daytime raids and only conduct night raids; however, the United States continued daytime raids due to its increased accuracy. As a result, the day and night bombings conducted by the two countries was known as “Bombing Around the Clock.” Even still, Germany was able to rebuild their plants and get them back into production in a reasonably short amount of time and therefore the same targets…
Pearl Harbor took place on December 7th, 1941. Japan had surprised the United States when they attacked one of our military bases in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. They had attacked the US without warning. The Japanese had destroyed 21 American ships and almost 350 aircraft. They had attacked Pearl Harbor around 7:55 on a Sunday. The Japanese Commander yelled out “tora, tora, tora!” (“tiger, tiger, tiger!”) Which means they caught the Americans by surprise.…
Towards the start of World War II the weapons of World War I became outdated, and newer weapons were to be developed for a further shooting range. During World War I, the average soldier held a Bolt Action rifle, but due to the slow reloading, semi automatic assault rifles, and small machine guns became common among soldiers on the battlefield. This small advancement in the speed of reloading and rapid fire caused a lot more casualties and lead to a far more bloody war. Explosives such as grenades and bombs were made even more deadly, and gas bombs became more accurate when dropped. Anti-tank weapons had to be developed to overcome the German tank invasions, so soldiers began carrying bazookas and rifles with armor piercing bullets. Also, the German flamethrower was drastically changed and formed into an accurate and efficient weapon. These changes in weaponry definitely lead to a deadly war, and caused the growth of the war even more than it would have been. The most advanced weapon, and perhaps the most deadly that changed the whole course of warfare and World War II was the introduction of the atomic bomb. The radar was also another invention that changed the whole course of World War II. The radar made it easier to spot enemies and track them miles before they arrived. This helped in becoming more precise on targeting enemy aircrafts and other vehicles. It allowed the Germans to track incoming German aircrafts, which gave them the great advantage of shooting them down before they…
Nuclear techniques were a major part of wars for the United States especially in world war II. In world war II nuclear techniques were used to help America in the war to promote their chances of them winning the war. During this time this was the nuclear age where the united states moved towards the nuclear age. The nuclear age was apart of the time where many of the war tactics were nuclear weapons. Americans in the war were helped severely by the efforts in the war with nuclear techniques. Many techniques were used during this time nuclearly. This time they were beneficial to the advancement of America.…
The Luftwaffe first targeted shipping convoys and shipping centers, but later focused on destroying RAF infrastructure, including radar sites and airfields (Axelrod). In the later stages of the campaign, they targeted aircraft factories, towns and cities. British fortunes were also helped by the fact that the Luftwaffe had never subscribed to a concept of strategic bombing. “British anti-aircraft and civil-defense preparations were inadequate in the summer of 1940”, yet the Luftwaffe was unable to wreak the devastating effects feared by many (Axelrod). German tactics were changed again and the Luftwaffe resorted to indiscriminate bombing of larger cities, including London, Plymouth and Coventry. British fighters were also inexperienced compared…
The Japanese Fu-Go bombing campaign took place from November 1944 to April 1945. The Fu-Go operation consisted of the Japanese sending “balloons” with bombs attached into the jet stream to eventually land in North America. The devices were made of: a paper balloon measuring 30 feet in diameter, several ropes approximately 50 feet in length, numerous bombs, and sandbags with an automatic altitude control device. The Japanese released approximately 9,000 balloons in six months, but only 300 balloons were identified in North America. The United States government kept the Fu-Go bombs a secret because the government wanted to avoid panic and avoid helping Japan by not releasing the locations of where the bombs landed. Under the Espionage Act of…
Overall, the Allied strategic bombing of Germany proved to be highly significant in the Second World War. By the end of the war, it was very significant in hindering the German economy forcing Germany to redirect resources away from the war effort and instead, investing in the reconstruction of damaged buildings and roads caused by the bombings. It was also very significant at relieving pressure at the Eastern front which is where the war was won by the dominant Russian force. It was less significant in terms of reducing German morale because even though morale was dented, ultimately, this did not play a part in the Allies winning the war. Much of the international relations improved throughout the war but broke down very quickly in 1944 and…
This bombing is what pushed Smith over the edge and threw himself deeper into the civil rights movement. Smith founded the Nashville Christian Leadership Council and served as president until 1963. This organization sponsored the nonviolent role in desegregating Nashville's lunch counters, hotels, and theaters. Within this group; Smith preached the principles of non-violence to it's members. He strongly believed in putting the fight for civil rights out in the public eye instead of through the court systems. Smith was driven to spread the word about non-violence so he created the series of workshops that later gave him his fame. Smith and his friend James Lawson held these workshops together where they taught the average citizen the key principles…
The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki marked the end to the world's largest armed conflict. Many debates have surfaced over the ethics of such an attack. The bomb itself caused massive amounts of casualties while the unknown effects of radiation caused many more deaths amongst the survivors of the blast. Despite the ghastly effects of such a weapon, it offered the best choice for a quick and easy defeat of Japan. President Truman, who authorized the use of the atomic bomb, made a wise decision under the circumstances of the war. The Japanese refusal to surrender, the massive amount of allied casualties involved in invading the Japanese mainland and the ineffectuality of a military blockade enforcing Japan to surrender made the bomb a necessary last resort.…
I am completely opposed to the bombings on the Japanese cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It is…

In many cultures, men are higher than women when it comes to status and the roles of men and women are alike. For example, men are the providers, the head of the household or the family while women are the mothers, the caregivers, the cooks, the cleaners and they are behind their husband. A double standard is enforced in many cultures and that is due to Religion. Religion has a very relevant role in society and certain gender roles are justified through religion. Religion itself is a paradigm that influences the gender roles in many cultures and our society. Whether it is Christianity. Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, or Buddhism; there are specific roles for men and women that influence the way men and women are supposed to act.…
1. It was necessary to shorten the war. A full scale invasion of the Japanese main land, would cost the lives of a lot of American soldiers, and using the atomic bombs as a threat of total destruction was a more favourable strategy.…
