1. Introduction
The case study is analysing the performance of Watsons Engine Components and in what extent the company is using practices in the management of people. To make things more clearly, the author is answering two questions and also giving some recommandations. Watsons is an independently owned company in the North-East of England with 200 employees in total. The company is producing parts for car engines and has in years been successful in maintaining its market share. But changes in the business enviroment make things difficult to sustain.
2. Question 1:
To what extent are the existing practices in the management of people linked to the strategic needs of the business in relation to the changing business environment? Identify where the links might be and how they could be improved.
The existing practices of the company are analysed and according to a few points of the „Seven Practices of Successful Organizations“ from Jeffrey Pfeffer some recommandations are given. As starting point, the author takes the main strategic needs, in a changing business environment of the company and links them to the existing practices of the company and how they can be improved.
