Analyzing Strategies for Blackberry
1. Preface:
They say “every good thing comes to an end” but what they never said is “every best thing might also come to an end” at-least in the case of Blackberry this has happened. Once considered as one of the best smartphones of the world is now one of the uncool phones of the world. It all started in the year 2007 when Steve Jobs inaugurated I-phone, a device that changed the telecommunication trend and also changed the fate of Blackberry. People at Blackberry seemed so loath about the I-phone. They assumed this was never going to work and I-phone was just a figurine. Their assumption was soon proven wrong as I-phone was well received by the consumers and the real black days for Blackberry started.
2. Blackberry’s Current Status:
When president Obama was first got elected he vouched for Blackberry but no one knows as of today does he still uses Blackberry or not? Once called as Crackberry is truly cracked up now as Blackberry now holds less than 1% of mobile market share which once was 46%.
2.1 Financial Standing: Blackberry has reported it is now making some money for the cell phones sold and their balance sheet is witnessing some positive signs but it is coming after loss for consecutive five quarters. Despite day and night efforts of Blackberry employees on Z10 and Passport, things did not go their way but Blackberry classic is getting some positive responses and pre-booking for Classic was sold out. Once Blackberry was traded $236 per share and as of today it was traded $10.29 per share which is very low but better than $7.69 of last years’. A mighty loss of $765 million dollars from Blackberry Passport venture has put them to more back foot though they have $3.1 billion dollars reserve in bank.
2.2 Social Standing: Job cut is not pleasant for any organization because the snowball effect of this program is very grave but out of necessity Blackberry has cut down 4,500 jobs globally
