Stravinsky Rite Of Spring Analysis

May 29, 1913 a ballet was held at the Champs Élysées Theatre by Stravinsky called The Rite of Spring. This piece was “a celebration of pagan rituals that eventually leads to a sacrifice of a chosen young woman to propitiate the gods of spring." However, the premiere had not gone as planned. The audience was not fully ready for what they were going to encounter throughout the performance, therefore, a riot had begun. Which eventually had ended the performance early (p.305). Now the ballet might not had went as planned but according to Miles Hoffman The Rite of Spring, “represents one of the greatest creative leaps in not only the history of music, but in the history of the arts." Years had gone by and the piece was being played over and over.
