Sandra Cisneros
After reading Straw into Gold several times, Cisneros piece represents first degree Americanness. Straw into Gold is Sandra Cisneros’ autobiography describing her life, her culture and her personal experiences. The autobiography is a nice representation of both realism and naturalism. During the realism literary period, the voices of women were starting to be heard. Cisneros has become a very popular female writer which was made possible through the works of women during the realism period. Naturalism focuses on everyday events, specifically, those events of poor, uneducated, lower class people. Cisneros describes in detail how being Mexican and living in poverty shaped her into the person she is today.
