Stress: Psychology and College
Stress is the biggest social, emotional and psychological problem faced by many people. It is also very evident amongst students in college. Many of them face stress as they endeavor to put together busy lives, jobs and school work and also make an effort to spend time with friends and families. Eventually, stress becomes a way of living for many students. All the same, stress produces dangerous effects upon college students. Thus, the effects of stress on students in college include mental reactions, misconduct, and depression.

Mental reactions have become very evident amongst students with stress. Stress brings a very harmful influence on the levels of thinking and studying in college, as well as on the brain mentality of a student. There is a noticeable absence of concentration among the student which affects their general academic progress in college.

Stress is also a major cause of misconduct amongst students. Very often college students relieve their stress through misconduct. They engage in smoking, drinking alcohol, fighting and cheating on exams among other negative behaviors. Through such misconduct, students only suppress the despondent feelings, making the situation even worse.

It should be mentioned, that depression often affects students due to continued stress. Students start to feel useless, when they try to succeed amidst stress. Depression is very noticeable when a student becomes hopeless, feels dejected, weak, suffers from insomnia and has suicidal thoughts. If not to take the right measures in time, this frightening experience can cost the college life of the student.

Stress can produce a huge effect on many students, including mental reactions, misconduct and depression. The competition in colleges rises, as well as the expectations from the students. When they study thoroughly to attain their goals, they realize that there are many challenges and obstacles they are coming up with and consequently stress starts to develop.

Most people who suffer from stress are college students because they have many things to do at the same time. Students have to balance their course work and family at the same time, and they have to leave their family problems in their home to be able to concentrate carefully on their course work.
