Stretch Marks Speech
I personally think that the person who creates the cure for stretch marks is going to be the richest person on the planet. Unfortunately, I don't think it's going to happen any time in the near future. While technology continues to advance, we have yet to find a way to rid ourselves of those rigged looking scars. Now, that's not to say there aren't effective treatments out there that can reduce the appearance of these unsightly scars, but you'd be hard pressed to find an absolute cure.

Contrary to popular belief, stretch marks are not only a result of pregnancy. Anyone can get stretch marks, male and female alike. They occur due to rapid growth and stretching of the skin. They occur during extreme weight loss. Obesity causes them. Those teenage growth spurts, the ones that have us quickly gaining height, causes them. Let me reiterate, those battle wounds we normally associate with giving birth are not the only association these scars have with our body. They are the result of many different stages of our lives.

It is common knowledge that as a society we tend to look to celebrities, the popular kids in school, those picture perfect fashion bloggers, gorgeous co-workers, as measuring sticks as to what we should look like. There is no one on this planet that is genetically blessed to

What do you see when you look in the mirror? Are you pleased, or do you immediately come up with an endless list of insecurities? As a child one of my favorite memories was laying around the house with my older sister on rainy days. We would leave the windows open so we could hear the rain coming down on the tin roof over our patio, while watching reruns of our favorite tv show “America's Next Top Model”. I always thought that these women were gorgeous and I would catch myself constantly comparing their looks to my own. I wanted to be just like them until I realized the unrealistic expectations that they had to live up to. A sizeable butt and breasts, but not too large; they have got to be proportional. A skinny waist, impeccable hair, blemish free face although even with clear skin you are expected to cake on makeup because no one is actually pretty without mile long eyelashes, the perfect smoky eye, and exemplary contouring. Society has idolized these things as “beautiful” and shamed the girls that do not meet these standards; however, society should be making everyone feel confident in their bodies. Girls need to know that it is okay not to have an “hourglass figure” so they don’t…

From the dieting tricks that promise to shave off weight within weeks, to the constant gossiping of the fashion trends of a femme fatale, the message is clear: the appearances of women matter. Unrealistic Body Images

Looks don't matter; its inner beauty that really counts. We grew up hearing these phrases. Our parents and teachers taught us not to judge people based on their looks. If all these things are true, then why do most of us judge people solely on their outer appearance? Why does the media put so much pressure on us to look a certain way, or fit into a specific size? Why do we still see headlines like “How to Lose Weight and Get Him to Like You”? Why does the media use severe airbrushing techniques to hide any flaws and impurities a person has? Magazines and media sites should not be allowed to drastically alter and manipulate people’s images and portray those images as the perfect goal one should strive to achieve. Being bombarded with unrealistic body images could have devastating effects on people, especially on women. Women need to start feeling happy and comfortable in their…

Put simply, the beauty ideal in American culture is: thin. “Large populations of ‘average’ girls do not demonstrate clinically diagnosable eating disorders—pathologies that the culture marks as extreme and unhealthy—but rather an entirely normative obsession with body shape and size,” Cutler said. “This ongoing concern is accepted as a completely normal and even inevitable part of being a modern girl. I think we need to change that.”…
