In the case of the People v. Lewie, Michael Flint pleaded guilty to two counts of depraved indifference murder for the horrific murder of 8 year old Colbi Bullock. The defendant’s girlfriend Alicia Lewie, and mother to Colbi was charged with both involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment due to Ms. Lewie failing to get the child the medical treatment he so desperately needed. In my opinion, Alicia Lewie could undoubtedly be charged with both child endangerment and involuntary manslaughter. Involuntary manslaughter is charged when severe negligence or reckless conduct causes an accidental death to occur. In this case, Ms. Lewie was exceptionally negligent when leaving her child with a man who was known to be extremely violent throughout…
In the instance of intervening with the systems provided above a social worker could have been an advocate in a police report on Francine’s behalf. They could have provided officers with documentation on the severity of the probability of him injuring one of the children during his tantrums. There should have also been a law demanding immediate removal and safety assurance due to the fact that there were children were involved. “Some of the most commonly identified services…involved counseling the victim while interrogating the suspect. By working cooperatively with the officer the team is able to impact victims at the point of crisis when they may be most amenable to services and change” (Corcoran, Stephenson, Perryman, & and allen, 2012).…
Meet John. John is a good guy. Your average Joe. One day John gets in his car to go to work. He puts on his seatbelt like the government made him and starts driving. While John is driving over a bridge he sees a duck crossing the road. He veers to avoid it and crashes into the water. John's car is sinking. He struggles with his seat belt, but he can't get it off. He can't breathe. The next morning, John's car washes up on the beach. All his family and friends are very sad. Under seat belt laws this could be you.…
Instead, I would make a visit to Jane's daycare facility to ensure that they are aware of this incident and see if they have reported the incident themselves. If for some reason they know nothing about what has happened, by going directly to the daycare to follow up with the facility management will give them a chance to handle it more effectively. Once Management is able to investigate the situation with the facility's staff then they will be able to take the steps necessary to remove the individual responsible for hitting Jane. By making sure the incident has been made apparent to the daycare facility this does a lot more good. Considering that we know exactly where the mark came from, there is no need for an intense investigation by other agencies since we know exactly where the abuse happened. It allows the daycare to be made aware of what is going on in their program and how the children of the daycare are being treated by the staff. This gives the facility the opportunity to fix and handle the problem accordingly without having to involve any other agencies. Even if management fails to appropriately handle the situation, then the daycare's human resources department can be notified or it can be reported to child protective services. Overall, this situation needs to be addressed within the daycare, and if needed this situation can be brought up to someone with greater authority to ensure it will be taken care…
They didn't think it would be a great idea because what would happen to the baby during this time or her. During her childhood she went through many hardships. She had to deal with being beat or called names and her parents lived even worse. Her parents were proud of her for standing up for herself but didn't like the idea of her going to jail because her baby and they would have to bail her out and they might have been more of a target. But that wasn’t so they still lived the same life.…
In 2001, Andrea Yates drowned her five children in a bathtub in her home. This was very disturbing news. I am a native Houstonian. I was at home that day. The television was on and will never forget the news breaking announcements that broke the story of a homicide in Clear Lake. All the information the reporters had was a mother killed all her children then called the police to report it. The full story and the details that lead to this tragedy did not unfold until years later. It was sad because as details unfolded if Andrea Yates had been treated properly and followed her doctors recommendations the whole situation might have been avoided.…
In some ethical and legal respects a pregnant woman and her fetus can be considered separate. Both the woman and the fetus are ordinarily affected by the well-being of one another for as long as each of them live. The ethical and legal issues are challenged deeply in cases where the well-being of the fetus and the mother appear to be in conflict. Our society struggles with identifying cases where the pregnant woman’s interests and/or behaviors might put her fetus at risk. Criminal and/or civil commitments should be used to bar pregnant women from exposing their fetuses to risk.…
On July 15th Caylee was reported missing by her grandmother Cindy. When Caylee was reported missing it was said that she had already been missing for 31 days. Cindy said that Casey’s car smelled like “a dead body had been inside it.” Cindy said when she brought up not seeing Caylee in a while Casey had numerous explanations as to Caylee's “whereabouts” until finally admitting that she had not seen Caylee in weeks (that was when the report was made by concerned, Cindy.) Not only did Casey not even report her own daughter missing, it took extensive questioning from family until Casey told family that Caylee was in fact missing, What kind of caring mother would hide the fact that there child is and has been for some time, missing?…
girls of this country [learn to drive]. At least for times of emergency, God forbid. What if whoever is driving them gets a heart attack?" (Wikipedia). The religious police captured her on May 21. By May 25th the video already had 600,000 views.…
A local woman calls law enforcement after hearing a knock at 4:26a.m. Opening it she found a newborn infant laying on her door step. According to the reports from authorities, the infant was lying on a white towel wearing nothing and only appeared to be only two hours old. The infant was rushed by ambulance to the hospital where she was treated for hypothermia. Unfortunately child abandonment cases like the one fore mentioned is not uncommon and pose a huge form of child neglect that can lead to death. Before 1999 cases like this was common in many states such as Texas. Statistics show that one out of 3 did not stand a chance at life. Thus the Safe Haven (“Baby Moses”) law was implemented to aid in minimizing acts of child abandonment and infant deaths; by giving parents a place to safely relinquish custody in the allotted timeframe provided by their state without criminal charges.…
I was very shocked to read this newspaper article about this poor woman and everything she went thru for the state of medical and media views of her baby. This is a good view on medical ethics. I hope it doesn’t happen to another woman. We have the right to do what we will with our bodies and the state or hospital can’t force us to anything. I hope I covered everything in my paper. My paper is a bioethical and legal I believe. Thank…
On Thursday September 14th at around 12:30 pm the hospital had a sentinel event which involved a missing child. The event details are as follows: Tina was scheduled for same day surgery and was brought to the hospital by her Mother. Her Mother was informed that the surgery would take approximately 45 minutes and that Tina would be in recovery at least 1 hour. Tina’s Mother informed the pre-op nurse that she had an errand to run involving Tina’s older sibling. Tina’s mother left the pre-op nurse her cell phone number with instructions to call her if Tina got out of surgery and was ready to go before she returned. Prior to Tina’s mother returning Tina’s father showed up to check on her, and finding that she was ready to go he took her to his house until the mother could pick her up. When Tina’s mother returned 2 ½ hours later she found Tina missing and the staff did not know that her father took her. The hospital activated a Code Pink and notified the local police department. When the hospital security interview the mother they learned the parents were divorced and that she had full custody of Tina and her other siblings. The local police found Tina at her father’s home within 30 minutes of Tina’s mother returning to the hospital. No charges were filed against the father.…

The reason why I asked child A if she was ok, was to reassure her and comfort her so she know she was safe and not in trouble. The reason why I took child A to the office is because that is my settings procedures for accidents. I filled in an accident form because that is also my settings procedures. Next time, I will let the other staff know, so that they can observe the other children and keep them…
