Strong Impressions Of The Spirit
Strong impressions of the spirit
Good morning everyone, I can’t remember that last time I was asked to speak not that I am complaining. Most of you know my family and I. For those of you that don’t I will give you a brief background. My name is Cassandra im 24 and the second to the oldest out of my siblings. I am currently in my second to last semester of my nursing program and on May 28, 2014 I will graduate with my bachelors in this field. So I can honestly say that I am blessed to have made it this far. I was asked to speak on strong impressions of the spirit. Henry B. Eyring stated, "A seed of faith is already planted in your heart. ... But, like a growing plant, it must be nurtured or it will wither. Frequent and heartfelt prayers of faith are crucial and need nutrients. Obedience to the truth you have received will keep the testimony alive and strengthen it. If you exercise faith, with the gift of the Holy Ghost, you will find that memories of other blessings will flood into your mind. If you begin to express gratitude for each of them, your prayer may take a little longer than usual. It is easy for us to become mechanical in our prayers of gratitude, often repeating the same words but without the intent to give our thanks as a gift of the heart to God." I find that as your testimony grows throughout the years you tend to have a glow about yourself and other people tend to notice it. As children and young adults we are exposed to numerous types of environments in which are very spiritual and help build our testimony. For example the young woman’s and the young means program teach us as young adults the paths that we can take to help us grow spiritually. Youth conference is a great experience I can remember countless number of times I told my parents that I didn’t want to go home because I had such a great time around kids my age that shared the same beliefs as me. I learned that God’s love is for everyone, and it is infinite. He knows how to communicate

It started when Lia was three months old when her sister had slammed the front door. Quickly after, “Lia’s eyes rolled up, her arms jerked over her head, and she fainted” (Fadiman 20). Her parents diagnosed her illness as qaug dab peg, "the spirit catches you and you fall down." In the next couple months, Lia had twenty more seizures. Her parents doubted the American medical ways. When her parents did take her into the emergency room, the hospital did not have any interpreters. They did not know how to explain what happened because at the moment when they got to the hospital, Lia…

The reason that you are here for this meeting is that you have all been selected to work in leadership roles in the church. Though you serve in the position at OBC, this opportunity should never be taken lightly because God orchestrated it. My spirit began to search for more of God . It is apparent that I must fast, pray and read my bible on a daily basis so that I can focus on God and build a closer relationship with him. This book is an excellent resource for counseling for those who need guidance in incorporating spiritual disciplines in a secularly dominated society. The only way this will be instrumental in counseling is to refer to its teaching and allow the Holy Spirit to make it conducive and acceptable in the counseling session. Many Christian counselors can use this resource to reach a level of maturity that will translate into true healing and…

In The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down, Anne Fadiman narrates the story of Lia, a Hmong girl suffering from epilepsy who was surrounded by challenges due to conflicting viewpoints of her parents and her health care providers. For the Hmong people, epileptic seizures are viewed as a positive trait; those people who suffered from seizures are attributed to be a “twix neeb”, or “a person with a healing spirit” (Fadiman, 1997, pg. 21). Lia’s parents—Foau and Nao Kao (the Lees)—considered her condition as both a blessing and an honour. However, in some way, they also considered it as an illness because they made use of medical aid offered by doctors to relieve its clinical manifestations. A lot of the Hmong’s conflicting ideas…

I have always love horses, and as a little girl one of my favorite movies was Spirit: a movie set in the 1800s about a wild mustang who is captured by the U.S army and embarks on a long journey back home to his family. I loved this movie not only because of the many horses, but also because I related with Spirit’s struggles. When I was very young my parents got divorced and my dad won custody of my little sister and I. At that young age I felt like I lost my mother because even though I still got to talk to her on the phone, I missed her arms around me when I was sad and that special relationships mothers and daughters share. Spirit lost his mom when he was captured and so I felt like he understood me.…

During the meeting there was a break where everyone stood up and got coffee and broke into a small conversation groups. The was where I did most of my observing and began to realize even more these people are people just like me, the only difference between them and I was that their reactions to situations were different than mine. Stories were told of going to birthday parties, dinner and even work situations. These stories were no different than my everyday life, the only difference was that after the situations I like to come home and talk to my children and husband they like to have a drink to relax. As the meeting came to an end another pledge was being spoke and everyone stood up and held hands in a circle for the pledge. It was at that very moment I was no longer nervous and had changed my thoughts. I held hands, I joined the group, and I wanted to help be a part of their recovery…

One of the most important moments in my spiritual life was when I was prophesied to about the calling on my life and when I received my gifts of the spirit. I was in church on September 10, 1999 and my pastor at the time was praying for people to receive healing, blessings, confirmations of Something God had spoken to them and to be released from unclean spirits through the laying on of hands and the movement of the Holy Spirit. The church was a small mobile home unit in a rundown part of Panama City, Florida which seated maybe 40 people. It had cheap, white paneling on the walls and bluish-grey hard knit carpet on the floor. My pastor was dressed in a grey three-piece suit standing in front of the church facing the congregation and the co-pastor dressed in a two-piece tan suit was standing to his right ready to catch anyone who was overcome by the Holy Spirit.…

The second session I was asked to be the guest speaker and could speak on whatever God laid on my heart. I went to my favorite scripture Matthew 28:18-20, the Great Commission. At this session we had a mixed crowd in attendance but more teenagers than adults. I wished I would have had people inviting me to outreach gatherings were I’d received a bible when I was a teenager. I did remember that as a teenager my church didn’t teach where we could understand even as kids or as a young person in God it went over my head. My goal was to ensure I didn’t make them feel as…

Over the past four years I have grown immensely not only physically but also mentally. My first three years at Carmel I did my ministry at the local fire department and I loved every minute of it. This taught responsibility because I quickly learned that if I make a simple mistake I not only hurt the firefighters but I would also hurt the people that they are helping. The firefighters inspired me because they risk their lives to save other people’s, because of this I decided that if they can risk their lives to help people I can help people in smaller ways without risking my life. I started this by changing my prayer before I go to bed. As an incoming student to Carmel I would pray before bed and talk to God about how my day went and to ask him for another good day tomorrow. After seeing how the firefighters do so much for people I started to include other people into my night time prayer. I would pray for those less fortunate than me and ask for inspiration to help other people more.…
