Purani dilli is called by many names in india – shahjahanabad, the walled city etc. in the years of its existence, it has undergone many changes with the rise in population and the change in times but the city still hasn’t lost all of its culture and heritage. It still is a melting pot of architecture, language, cuisine, art, craftsmanship and many more. The most important structure in shahjahanabad is the jama masjid and the red fort. These two are the main monuments in the city. In the earlier times, the city of shahjahanabad was composed of only three places – jama masjid, faraz khana and the ajmeri gate. Along with the jama masjid, the city has other 20-22 mosques in the area. The red fort and the jama masjid serve as the two foci of an ellipse.
