March 9, 1999. That’s the date when my father was pass away. This is an unforgetable moment in my life.
Before he passed away, my father had already been treated at Baptist Hospital in the city of Kediri, East Java, due to illness. And my father has always been accompanied by my mother in the hospital.
Only one thing that I can still remember clearly until now where my father was in the hospital insisted on returning home. He showed that he was completely healed although he still looks weak and pale.
Upon arrival at home I greeted with beautiful arrangement flower that I arangged myself. I gave it to my father and my father smiled and he expressed it by words 'thank you my daughter'.
The next day when at that time coincided with my birthday to eleven-year-old on February 22, 1999. We held a small party at home. I'm very grateful and very happy that my father at the time was healthy and we could get together again at home. And to this day I can still remember especially on my birthday, there was always sweet as well as sad memories in my mind.
A day later, I could still remember that time at 17.00, he looks pale and hard to breath and eventually was immediately took to the same hospital. My father went straight to the ICU until finally on March 9, 1999 my father left us for ever when it happened I was so young where I really wanted to be pampered like children in general.
And until finally the pale body of my father came in the funeral home. Greeted with louds sounds of my mother and also my two sisters crying. The day was like the end for me. Sadness very deep. Second by second I passed with a sense of dispiritedness. Until the end I carried away from the body of my father because I almost fainted with grief I suffered. My world was felt so dark. I really lost the figure of a father.
And after my father was passed away, our economic life has changed. Our life being worse because of financial shortage. That condition forced my mom to earn money alone and it made her sick and treated in the hospital. That situation remembered me of my father when my mom being treated in the hospital and I was really afraid and not able to face the situation like that. I am afraid if my mom got a serious illness. But that situation also made me close to God. Everyday I pray for the health of my mom and praise the Lord, God answered my prayers quickly.
I am very grateful to God that at that time my mom just suffered of typhus and dengue fever and thank to God that she always be healty till now.
Since then I became increasingly concerned about health especially concern about the healthy of mom. I always set alarm on the phone and in the calendar table to remind my mom to do general check up regularly. I want to do anything to make my mom happy, thus she will not get sick.
That memories also made me rely on God. I believe that whatever occured in my life God always loves me and my family. And also I am so thank to God that God has allowed me to receive this life lesson earlier and I proud to be me because since the death of my father I became more independent, I do things that I can do. Besides I became love my family much more, I love Mom and my sisters. I also could pluck a lesson to appreciate the time. I always appreciate it by sharing the happiness with the people we love.

That was the day that my grandpa passed away. Every single part of that date is engrained in my memory. My parents had driven up to Wisconsin, and my older sister Lauren drove home for college to stay with me. It wasn’t out of the normal for my parents to quickly leave, so I didn’t think much of it. I remember going to hang out with Tatum, my best friend of the time. It was a nice day outside, so of course we were outside playing on the trampoline and doing all our weird routines like we always did. Her family, who was like a second family to me, decided to go out to eat so they brought me along. We went to La Charitas. I remember how Mrs. Teeple pulled out a funny card game for us to play, and I remember Tatum cutting out faces in her tortilla, making us all laugh. When we got back to the house we saw that my sister called, so I said bye to the Teeples and walked one minute down the road to my house. Lauren, who is one of the most emotional in the family, was left with the task of telling me that my grandpa had passed away. I had just grabbed a snack of chocolate cheerios as she started to tell me the news. I didn’t know how to react, so I ran into the basement directly to the furthest corner I could find. Lauren tried talking to me, but I wanted to be by myself. One of the hardest things I have ever done was talking to my dad on the phone after finding out. He called to tell me the plans, that he was coming home to get us, and…

It happened on a day like any other, but little did I know while I was sound asleep, that I might never have the chance to see my father ever again. It was around midnight when my father was on his way home on his motorcycle. His body flung over the hood, and he flew onto the side of the road. With no helmet on,…

I remember the day clearer than any other. I was in 5th grade. My mom sat me down and told me my father would be living in another home. They called it “temporary.” “It will end” “It is not divorce”, they said. This, age nine, is when the constant packing, unpacking and swapping from house to house began. This lasted about a year until my Dad moved back in. We were whole, again. That was the happiest month I can really remember. Having two parents say goodnight to me, not having to repeat each story twice, and meals with someone at each head of the table. Everything was perfect. Until we decided to all go out to a family dinner. At this dinner my parents dropped one word.…
