Background
The Sisters of the Congregation of St. Paul of Chartres (SPC) ventured into Vigan, the center of a flourishing Spanish colony, on June 5, 1905, on the invitation of Bishop Dennis Joseph Dougherty six hundred forty seven (647) years after the seat of the Diocese of Nueva Segovia was transferred from Cagayan to Vigan, Ilocos Sur in 1758. Paulinian Education in Ilocos Sur started in 1905 when Mother Candide Cousin accepted the invitation of Monsignor Dennis Dougherty to give Catholic Education to young Ilocano girls.
The old SPCIS was located near the St. Paul Metropolitan Cathedral Church. Today, the school Grade School and College campuses are found at Bayubay, San Vicente while the High School Department is located at Bantay, Ilocos Sur. They started to move to the new school location in 1997. They built new structures for students from kindergarten to college, like gymnasium, audio-visual rooms, libraries, laboratories, canteens and the Pere Louis Chauvet Hall.
St. Paul College of Ilocos Sur is a Catholic school run by SPC sisters, formerly headed by Sr. Teresita Bayona, SPC, and now headed by the newly installed President, Sr. Alegria Avellaneda, SPC.
The school has taken substantial changes in redefining its processes and procedures in order to continue working towards the development of the students. That’s why at this moment, SPCIS’ College Department is a PAASCU level II accredited, and now a member of the St. Paul University System, the first University System accredited in the country. The institution continues to cope up with the latest technology by adapting new systems which will definitely make its processes and procedures produce satisfying outputs and innovative transformation towards success.
