Merry Shelly’s Frankenstein shows how Victor ignores many things like his social life, family and most of all his own creation. Victor Frankenstein ignores the creature completely; he doesn’t give the creature any of his attention. The creature tries his best to get Victor’s attention by talking to him first, but when that doesn’t work on Victor; the creature changes his game to violence. Merry Shelly shows that you cannot ignore problems, you can either confront them positively or they will require your attention through negative responses.…

Throughout the times there have always been women whom have a certain kind of motivation and strive to not only influence theirs but also the lives of others .Women whom know exactly what they want and are willing to fight even fate to reach what they had intended . I have chosen to compare two powerful and leading ladies Rosalind from “as you like it “ and Antigone from Sophocles’ “Antigone“ . there is the feminist who seeks privilege and the feminist who seeks opportunity ,she who wants a bigger share for women , more wealth ,power or liberty (Parsons 52) which in the case of our heroines it is the matter of power and liberty .These women not only influence there own destiny and future but they also influence others around them like cilia whom by being faithful to her cousin Rosalind follows her to the garden of Arden and therefore falls in love with Orlando’s brother Oliver , Orlando or even phoebes future ,and examples from Antigone would be how she influences her destiny (death ) or even Ismenes or Haemons life. Like Antigone ,Rosalind is very gutsy we understand this when she is sent to exile by her uncle and instead of feeling frightened she puts on a brave face and goes to the garden of Arden in search of freedom .She is quit an interesting character ,for although she smartly believes love to be madness and even tells Orlando whose told her he would die if he can’t have her that "men have died from time to time, and/ worms have eaten them, but not for love" (4.1.18) making her a wise person and yet she allows herself to fully embrace love and experience it and like Antigone whom kills herself goes to rather similar extremes such as working on her beloveds romance skills while dressed as a boy (Ganymede) . Antigone too does many heroic things to show her braveness for example risking all she has for her beliefs and loyalty and even killing herself .She simply feels that she can take her destiny in her own hands . She always wants…

“The lottery” is a story that begins describing a village. The first descriptions that took my attention were “flowers were blossoming profusely” and “the grass was richly green”. After describing the village it passes to what people are doing. It says that they are getting together for an event, which is the lottery. All the heads of the family, who were men, had to drawn for their family. This had been going since before the oldest man in the village was born. We don’t really know the reason of this lottery until we get to the part where Old Man Warner starts mocking the young people around the other villages, who had stopped doing the lottery. He says “Used to be saying about ‘Lottery in June, corn be heavy soon.’ This shows that that’s their tradition of getting heavier fields with corn, and their tradition was to stone one person for everyone else to be happy.…

In the novel, The Kite Runner, one symbol used is the kite which Hassan runs through the streets of Kabul to recover so that he and Amir win the kite running competition, this kite could represent freedom as when a kite is being flown, it is able to move freely with the wind with no obstacles, which relates to the book because Amir moves to America to relieve all the problems he had in Afghanistan and forget all of the bad things he did by creating a new beginning. The kite could also represent a juxtaposition of roles between Amir and Hassan, as by the end of the book, Amir has become The Kite Runner, not Hassan. Another symbol in the Kite Runner is the cleft lip that Hassan was born with; it is the main feature that Amir uses to describe him with. The cleft lip symbolises poverty because it shows that his parent, his father, didn’t have enough money to repair Hassan’s deformity, and the fact that the cleft lip symbolises poverty, juxtaposes Amir as Hassan is the servant to Amir. When Baba pays for Hassan’s cleft lip to be fixed, it reveals a secret love for Hassan, which foreshadows the event where the reader finds out that Hassan is Baba’s son, but only he and Hassan’s mother know this, which is the reason as to why Hassan’s mother ran away from home.…

Bang! The gun rang throughout the glistening Olympic stadium in Sydney. Marion Jones claimed her first gold in the 100m dash. After the exciting two week competition ended, three gold medals and two bronze medals glimmered around the neck of the beautiful and gifted athlete, Marion Jones. Everything seemed to click that year for the three-time Olympic champion, but her tremendous performances led critics to question whether she had used performance-enhancing drugs. After denying any allegation of taking illegal substances, in 2007, Marion Jones announced the she “unknowingly” took performance-enhancing drugs in 2000 and 2001. Along with the five medals, her pride and respect were infamously ripped from her. After gaining legendary status at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, similar to Hester Prynne in the Scarlet Letter, Marion Jones was shunned from society after admitting that she unknowingly took performance-enhancing drugs.…

In every state that retains the death penalty, jurors have the option of sentencing convicted capital murderers to life in prison without the possibility of parole. However, according to the Death Penalty Information Center, there have been 1369 executions since 1976 (Death Penalty Information Center, 2014), with a total of 39 executions in year 2013 (NAACP LDF). The death penalty is a cycle of violence magnified with economic inequalities, violations to human rights, and uses cruel uncivilized instruments of death. US lawmakers need to end this horrific cycle of violence and unjust punishment. This immorality of state-sanctioned killing is wrong in many ways and should be abolished.…

Great Expectations is a novel written by Charles Dickens during the times of the industrial revolution. Dickens wrote this novel to show the inequality between people (shown in class systems) and also how a change in class can lead to a change in person; he does this through the use of themes such as Pride and Power. However, he also highlights that the lower class people also had pride (for e.g. Joe).…
