Volcano eruptions come in many different styles also, from mild eruptions that only release steam and then there are other types of eruptions where they quietly dispel large amounts of lava and then there are altogether violent explosions where large clouds of gas-laden debris is blown in the atmosphere. There are six types of eruptions: the “Strombolean” type eruption where huge blobs of molten lava fly from the summit crater to form arcs through he sky and collecting on the sides of the cone lava clots combined to stream down the slopes in fiery rivulets. the “Visuvian” type of eruption that explodes great amounts of ash laden gas violently and discharges to form a cauliflower-shaped cloud high in the air above the volcano. the “Pelean” or “Nuee Ardente” eruption. This is a glowing cloud made up largely of gas, dust , and iridescent lava. Fragments are blown out of a central crater, then they fall back and form tongue-like, glowing avalanches that move down slope at velocities as great as 100 miles per hour. the “Hawaiian” type eruption can occur along fissures or fractures that they serve as linear vents. Sometimes, they occur in a central vent where molten and incandescent lava spurts from the fissure on the volcanoes rift zone and feeds lava streams that flow down slope. the “Phreatic” type eruptions are driven by explosive exploding steam resulting from cold ground or surface water coming into contact with hot rock or magma. In this case no new magma is erupted, only the fragments of pre-existing solid rock from the volcanic conduit are blasted out. Though usually the eruptive activity of these volcanoes is weak, sometimes it can be very violent. the “Plinian” type eruptions are the most severe, they involve the explosive ejection of relatively viscous lava, they can send ash and volcanic gas tens of miles into the air. Resulting ash fall out can affect large areas hundreds of miles downwind. Fast moving and deadly pyroclastic flows are also commonly associated with these eruptions. A pyroclastic flow is a mix of incandescent ash and gases that flow downhill at race-car speeds.
