Stress becomes almost a way of life. What is stress? Stress is simply the body’s non-specific response to any demand made on it. Stress is not by definition synonymous with nervous tension or anxiety. There are two types of stress. They are positive stress and negatives stress. Positives stress can make someone who has characteristics that are lazy to achieve something that they want; Negative stress is different, it can cause someone to do something bad without rational thought.
Why college student facing a lots of stress? College student mostly get their stress when getting ready for a major exam, during the assignment due date, making a big decisions, exposure to new people, environment, ideas and temptations, greater academic demands, changes in family relations and one’s social life, and preparing for their life after graduation. Besides that, psychological make-up can also play a role in vulnerability to depression. People who have low self-esteem, who consistently view themselves and the world with pessimism, or are readily overwhelmed by stress may be especially prone to depression.
There are several ways to reduce stress among college students. The first ways are setup a network of friends. Friendly and helpful can help us to meet and become friends with other people quickly. Other people at college have the same fears, stresses and willingness to meet others as you do. New friends will help ease the transition to college life. They provide others to share ideas, concerns, joys and sorrows with, and increase self-esteem. In other words, friends can make your experience at college much more enjoyable. Beyond that friends can significantly reduce stress on college students.

The other ways are eating the right foods. Food plays an important role in stress management. Processed foods are filled with artificial chemicals, flavourings and preservatives and very little actual nutrition. Instead, reduce stress and anxiety by filling up on fruits, vegetables, fish, seeds and nuts. Smaller and frequent meals with a variety of foods would keep energy and blood-sugar levels stable and keep off performance-affecting hunger pangs. Reducing intake of sugar and salt would also have a positive effect on stress levels. Vitamin B6 rich foods, such as, eggs, chicken and wheat germ also help reduce stress. Eating right can help boost energy naturally and lower stress and exhaustion levels. Other than that, Meditate, pray, or do yoga each morning is also one of the ways to reduce stress. The simple technique of quieting the mind, following the breath, and relaxing the body can put you in the right frame of mind for getting through a stressful day with a positive mental attitude. This can result in tension, headaches, back pain or lack of focus and general unproductively. A few simple ways to help reduce these stress symptoms is to: Change your position or take a quick walk around the office, drink some water, stretch, or do yoga exercise. Why is it reduce stress is important among college student? Nowadays, many teenagers or youngsters are too protected by their parents. If there is any stress, their will choose the way to finish their life. So if a person is over-stressed, then he or she might not be able to withstand the pressure and therefore, he or she might think of suicide. The ways to reduce stress can avoid someone from being suicide. It can save the person life. Stress will causes health problems such as depression, anxiety, substance abuse and eating disorders. Researchers are finding that many mental illnesses are traced to trauma, whose damage surfaces in times of stress and change, such as the college years. At colleges nationwide, large percentages of college students are feeling overwhelmed, sad, hopeless and so depressed that they are unable to function. In a recent national college health survey, 10% of college students had been diagnosed with depression. In the conclusion, stress will cause many effect but there are many ways to reduce stress and they are very important to us.
