Student Athletes Should Get Paid Essay
College football is a multi - billion dollar industry and everyone gets paid except for the players the ones that actually play in the games. Although the players are not employees they should get paid. Imagine you're a full time student and you're working at a full time job and for all of your hard work and dedication you help your company make lots of money but out of all that money that you help make you get none of it. But your boss and all the people with higher positions than you gets paid. Now for a student athlete in college a famous sport is a full time job because all you do is go to school and go to practice and you have team meetings and you also have homework . Student athletes are a big part of universities income and it's …show more content…
And they have a rule called amateurism and that's the reason why the athletes don't get paid. It states that no athlete can get salary for participating in athletics and no prize money above actual and necessary expenses. The players can get all types of injuries from playing football like concussions and they can tear their ACL or get seriously injured playing this sport and for some injuries you get from playing football will make you be in pain for the rest of your life. Football is a very dangerous sport in fact it is one of the most dangerous sports in the world and the players risk their life every time they step on the field . The NCAA is still having debate on this so we don’t really know if the players are going to start getting paid or not. People are asking is there really a need to change the rule of providing extra money aside from the scholarship. But i think they still should get paid because it's like a job you have to work out everyday and maintain a good GPA to not get kicked out it's like if you don't do good at your job you get fired. So therefore all of the student athletes should get paid because without them the universities wouldn't make half of the money they make now. Also because they work really hard to win the games and stay dedicated .you would think that the ncaa makes billions a dollars a year that they will give the

Well except for the fact that players don’t get paid for their labor. If you look at it players should see at least little part of whatever money they generate, for example Texas A&M start quarterback Jonny Manzel is said to be responsible for close to 2.5 million dollars in revenue generated for the school alone. Because of TV, merchandise, tickets sales and him just playing there Texas A&M gets that much extra money. He doesn’t get anything from it, in fact most college athletes are struggling money wise while on campus. Coaches on the other hand, since players can’t get paid the coaches make 6 and sometimes 7 figures. John Kalipary, the head coach at Kentucky University has a 4 million dollar salary. This just isn’t fair to the student athlete and I think they should have some sort of compensation for all that they…

Division I college football is a very popular sport, with many stars all across the nation. Some of these stars are essentially well known celebrities, yet they make the same amount of money as a newborn. This is what Division 1 football players deal with during their times at school. This issue has become a well-known argument, with many attempts by different groups in support of the players receiving a salary. However, the NCAA has been strongly against the idea of paying the players. Division 1 football athletes bring revenue to their schools and commit much of their time to their sport, so they should be paid for their work.…

The NCAA is in charge of several sports from basketball and football to wrestling and golf. The NCAA is in charge of three various divisions, which are based on the size and success of the school. With this issue, many sports analysts have started to make their very own statements on it. Michael Wilbon is a sports analyst for ESPN, when debating about whether college athletes should be paid or not, Wilbon wrote in an article, “The best college athletes in the two revenue-producing sports have always been worth much more than tuition, room, board and books. … Yet, no player can benefit from that work. The players have become employees of the universities and conferences as much as students -- employees with no compensation, which not only violates common decency but perhaps even the law” (Wilbon). People need to understand the great amount of unfairness that college athletes have been enduring. The NCAA is making millions of dollars off of these college athletes, and these college athletes are simply not receiving one penny of it. The NCAA is not treating their college athletes right in the slightest bit, but could arguably be violating the law, as well. Therefore, college athletes should be paid because of their diligent efforts for the…

Money gives food, money gives water, money gives life, but money is not given to collegiate football athletes. The National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA, made a billion dollars on the games during March Madness and even after the nets were cut and a champion was crowned not a single player was give any money. Collegiate football players, or any collegiate player for that matter, should be paid for each game based on how hard they work and how dedicated they are to their sport. The athletes are the basis and the main reason the NCAA makes their millions. In addition, it can give these athletes a financial education and better prepare them for their future. Money is the reason people thrive.…

The NCAA has forever aimed to maintain amateurism in their sports. There is a very thick line between amateurism and professionalism. Professionalism has been entered when that athlete receives a salary for his or her services. Granting for the payment of student-athletes would defeat the intentions of everything the NCAA exemplifies. If college athletes earn a yearly salary this would make them professional. We cannot forget that these young adults are at college to get an education. One blogger from ESPN Radio 104.5 stated, “The percentage of football players getting drafted is 2%... The other 98% will have college degrees if they stick it out.” (College Athletes Shouldn’t Get Paid). By saying this, he means that it would be pointless to play 98% of players who will never make it pro. That statistic does not cover the other sports like baseball, basketball, and soccer that give out full rides and other scholarships to many of their athletes. Many of those who are getting a free education should be grateful for it, because they are not good enough for the pro’s and are going to use their degree once they get out into the workforce. We cannot forget that these players are amateur and have just gotten out of high school. Players cannot be myopic. They must give credence to the big picture and that they are only young and in…

But in 1948 the NCAA adopted a code that limited financial aid for athletes to tuition and fees. The NCAA has said before and they’ll say it again, they will not pay college athletes. The NCAA is who would make the decision. So it might slightly matter what the athletes have to say about being paid but it is completely their decision. The NCAA is a non-profit. So they would not be able to pay the players so the colleges would be the ones having to pay them, But colleges can’t afford to pay their players. And the colleges have to keep the stadium and or gym clean and renovate it every so often. And players are expecting to get paid? But they NCAA did come up with a compromise, since they would not pay the athletes for playing, they said that they would raise scholarships to cover full college…

NFL players win the superbowl and they get paid; they get paid everyday because of a contract. College athletes have the choice if they want to do a sport in college but they have to try out. If they make the team then they represent their school and when it gets to the NFL combine their school is represented. I think college athletes should be paid for everything they do. Just like what Carmelo Anthony said, if we don’t solve this problem college basketball and all college sports will begin to go down.…

Over the past decades, what has continued to be one of the most debatable issues in the world of sports is whether or not college football players should get paid. My honest opinion is football that players should receive a certain proportion of money because of the service that college athletes provide to the institution they attend. In addition, they should be rewarded in a reasonable manner after putting their bodies out on the line, bringing in a tremendous amount of money, it will help with the football athletes to begin creating a sense of financial awareness, and finally it will attract more talented athletes.…

Should we pay college athletes? Many young adults work hard to become a college athlete, putting in tons of extra hours to earn the spot, to challenge, prepare and focus themselves for the opponents they’re about to face. College for most students is a large burden to pay for whether the money is coming from parents, family, scholarships, loans it can cause great stress and conflict in a household. Being a college athlete is like working two different jobs. Well some may feel that college athletes have to work on school and sports therefore they deserve to be paid; however, College athletes are well recognized for their athletic ability and receive a full scholarship which should be enough compensation.…

Imagine this: you are in the military force, you risk your life on a day-to-day basis for our country's freedom. If you survive fighting, you sleep on an uncomfortable, rock hard bed and eat nauseating food. You work your tail off, yet you actually make less than the average American does yearly. Now, take into perspective, perhaps a professional boxer: they may risk their lives, but it's for our entertainment, not for our safety. When they are done wrestling, they go back to their five star hotels and eat gourmet food. They train, and yes, they may have worked hard to get to where they are, but they're out here making millions per fight, which is way more than what the average American makes. Look closer, should an entertainer really get paid such a profound amount for one fight, rather than those who work to…
