Abstract
The purpose of the study is to determine if there’s a grade improvement of the First Year IT students at STI in their Java programming class if the instructor uses student-centered teaching compared to a class where the instructor uses the conventional way. To do this, the study will use an experimental research design in comparing the two groups: a treatment and a control group, with the same Java programming subject and teacher. For the validity and reliability of the data and to avoid unnecessary factors that could possibly interfere with the result of the study, sample respondents from each group will be taken. It will be composed of students having the same, more or less, of their age, ability, and gender. The study will hopefully improve the grades of the students in Java programming with the aid of student-centered teaching, as implied by the concept.

Background of the study
One of the major problem that I usually encounter as an IT Instructor in STI is the poor academic performance of the IT students in my Java programming class that is why I came up with this research, incorporating student-centered approach in my teaching aside from the conventional teacher-centered teaching method that we usually practice, in order to improve and get the attention of the class that programming is not a boring and difficult task to do since student-centered approach focus the activity to the learners instead of the teacher (http://www4.ncsu.edu/unity/lockers/users/f/felder/public/Student-Centered.html). With this, they will be given activities that suit their skills and interest rather than ready-made activities.
Activities that are customize to the level of competitiveness and interest are not so easy to prepare, it is time-consuming then the coverage topics for the whole semester will be affected but if I can prepare the materials before hand, design a generic activity that fits
