Sing – A – Long
Winter 2014
The Dreydl Song
Dreydl spin,
Spin, spin, spin,
Hanukah---- welcome in,
Hanukah--, welcome in,
Little Dreydl,
Spin, spin, spin.
Festal lights now behold
And be joyful young and old,
And be joyful young and old,
As the miracle is told!
Hanukah, Oh Hanukah!
Hanukah, oh Hanukah come light the menorah. Let’s have a party, we’ll all dance the horah, Gather round the table, we’ll give you a treat **
Shiny tops to play with and latkes to eat!
And while we are playing
The candles are all burning low
One for each night
They shed a sweet light
To remind us of days long ago…
One for each night
They shed a sweet light
To remind us of days long ago…Hey!

Somebody waits for you
Kiss her once for me

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeeer
You know Dasher, and Dancer, and Prancer, and Vixen,
Comet, and Cupid, and Donner, and Blitzen,
But do you recall the most famous reindeer of all?
Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer had a very shiny nose.
And if you ever saw him, you would even say it glows.
All of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names.
They never let poor Rudolph join in any reindeer games.
Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say:
"Rudolph with your nose so bright,
Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"
Then all the reindeer loved him as they shouted out with glee,
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, you'll go down in history!

Santa Claus Is Coming To
Town
You better watch out,
You better not cry,
You better not pout,
I'm telling you why:
Santa Claus is coming to town!
He's making a list,
And checking it twice,
He's gonna find out who's naughty or nice.
Santa Claus is coming to town!
He sees you when you're sleeping, He knows when you're awake.
He knows when you've been bad or good,
So be good for goodness sake!
Oh!...You better watch out,
You better not cry
You better not pout,
I'm telling you why.
Santa Claus is coming to town!

So bring some out here

God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home.

To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home.

On Monday, 18 November 2013 at 7:30 p.m. in Evergreen Presbyterian Church the Rhodes College Orchestra and Wind Ensemble performed the Baroque-N Christmas. The event was open to the public, to share their joy for the upcoming holiday. The program included the Palladio, the Suite for Strings, the Chasing Sheep is Best Left for Shepherds, the Alleluia, the Variants on a Mediaeval Tune, and the Concerto Grosso in G Minor, Op.6, No.8. I was very eager to attend the concert because the Baroque-N Christmas included works from the Baroque Era, which is my favorite period of artistic style. Leah McGray was the conductor and Jennifer Rote was the flute soloist for the Rhodes College Wind Ensemble; I don’t remember their being a concert master, which I thought was odd.…

I am a part of the Huntsville Community Chorus Youth Chorale. We are a choir made up of kids in grades 7-12. Last year we were invited to sing with choirs all over the country for Mr. John Rutter’s last performance at Carnegie Hall. We would be in the first act singing Gloria. It was an amazing honor for all of us. We spent lots of time preparing this song all year, and it was definitely a challenge. It was very difficult to learn a song of this complexity in a way that was worthy of a performance like this. On May 22 our choir got on the plane to New York, overflowing with excitement for the days to come. We drove through the city towards our hotel. We spent the rest of the day exploring Times Square. The following three days were filled…

Music education provides one of the soundest instructional foundations for behavioral, cognitive and constructivist persuasions not heralded by any other curriculum known to mankind. When one considers all five of the fundamental senses of being human, almost everyone would agree that music education covers them all. This paper will recreate an existing section within a middle school backdrop which is currently being taught from a traditional music education course in the deep south. The primary revision will focus on the behavioral aspects of the strategies associated with the overall course description and outline, while incorporating cognitive learning theories utilizing select instructional design techniques.…

It’s funny how flexible and versatile music is. Music is thrash metal emanating from a pair of iPod headphones, with the intent of getting someone motivated for a long workout, and a soothing lullaby sung by a mother to her child. Music is the sunny chirpings of pretty morning melodies by the birds, and the soft pitter-patter of rain—nature’s music. And on May 4th, music was the choirs of CLC putting together all of the hard work of the semester for the few who are willing to listen. For me, choir music was always to be heard, but never to actually be listened to for any enjoyment. But that night, I was one of those willing few. Attending the College of Lake County Spring Choral Concert made me realize how essential it is to recognize the beauty in versatility in music.…

No matter how horrible our country might be at the moment, refusing to stand up for the National Anthem shows complete disrespect and dishonor to our country. Our country has been through so much in the past to fight for what we have today, people have risked their lives for you to have an even better one and for you not even acknowledge the importance of the sacrifices they made for you and everyone else, is disgraceful. New Orleans Saints quarterback, also disagreed with the fact that it’s a disrespectful to not stand up during the National Anthem, he stated, “[I]t’s an oxymoron that you’re sitting down, disrespecting that flag that has given you the freedom to speak out.” How could you put no honor towards the flag? The flag that represents…

Ever since I can remember, I’ve been very passionate about music. I started singing in the Church choir when I was in kindergarten and took guitar and piano lessons. However, I didn’t realise how important music was to me until last year. I auditioned for the middle school Show Choir in seventh grade, but I didn’t get in. I decided I wasn’t going to pursue choir as an elective in school anymore, but by some stroke of luck I was put into a regular choir class the next year. Most likely this was because there was no other class for me to be in, but I’m grateful my schedule worked out this way. I was able to rediscover my love for singing and learn about basic music theory, which has led me to my desire to audition for the high school Show Choir.…

Choral Singers- This is a subculture that I have been a part of for the majority of my life. From being in the Springfield Showstoppers show choir at the age of 9 to being in the Illinois Music Education Association's All State Chorus, I have always felt like I belonged in this subculture. Everything about performing, whether that be for fun or for competition, I love. There are quite a few different style groups that I have been a part of, my favorite being Madrigals (Renaissance and Baroque style music). This would be a good subculture for me to write about because it's been such a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember.…

Oh no, not again. A crowd of amused snickers erupted from behind me. It seemed as though my teacher had forgotten to accessorize with her pitchfork and horns this morning. I looked up at her and crossly glared. Apparently, no number of parent-teacher conferences could deter her from her “we sometimes have to do things we do not want to” mentality. I looked down at the page and read very slowly, stumbling and whistling through every s, sh, st and everything of the like. I sounded like an angry teapot. This was my own personal hell, and I had an audience. Boy, were they having the time of their lives. You would have thought that I was the world’s best stand-up comedian.…

“What do you mean all of this work is preparing me for life?” cried Melissa, one of my young trumpet players. “This is just a band concert!” The Beginning Band class had stalled in its progress toward their first performance and I could see it was time for me to convince her how preparing for a concert was about much more than playing the pitches and rhythms. There were lessons to be learned that would be applicable throughout her life, regardless of her eventual interests or careers.…

Music education fosters emotional maturity, as students learn to set and achieve personal goals and to “be the performer without making one’s self the center of attention rather than the music,” according to Ken Petress in "The Importance of Music Education." Practical maturity is gained through music education as students learn the rewards of hard work and diligent practice. Time management, self-assessment, the ability to accept criticism and performance skills are all important lessons students learn through music education.…
