Self-regulated learning can be defined as “The process in which [a] student is cognitively, motivationally, and behaviorally active in his or her learning.” (Zimmerman and Martinez-Pons). While this concept is relatively new, many students have embraced it over the last few decades resulting in their success. I am one of those many students that embrace this concept; some aspects stronger than the others. Planning and organizing not only play a major role in my life as a student, but in my life in general. Though I often lack the confidence to ask questions that provide a more thorough understanding of what I am trying to learn, the one aspect of my learning I can control is my learning environment.…

    Journal Bearing

A journal orbit study must be done to optimize the clearance space between the journal and the bearing surface. The study must provide the minimum oil film thickness (MOFT) and the Peak oil film pressure (POFP). Values of these parameters for the optimized clearance are important factors. The MOFT is used in the calculation of the oil flow, temperature rise, and heat balance. According to Conway-Jones and Tarver [1993], about 52% of the heat generated in connecting rod bearings in automobile engines is carried away by the oil flow. Approximately 38% of the remaining heat flows into the adjacent main bearings via the crankshaft. The remaining 10% is lost by convection and radiation. In the case of main bearings, about 95% of the total heat is carried away by the oil flow, which is estimated to be more than five times the flow through the connecting rod bearings, which were fed by a single oil hole drilled in the crank pin. The POFP is the guiding factor in the selection of a bearing life.…

    Enjoy university life

How many time have you complained after entering the university? I believe that more complaints that you have made, less satisfactory that you have. To enjoy university life, you should and could reduce the complaints. You may say, it is not your fault. You are not able to control others and force them to do better. In fact, what you should control are not others. Instead, it is your mind. I mean, you should think positive. I remember the second ocamp that I have joined. The greatest activity in the camp is water battle. It is the best way to fight against the glaring sun during the summer holiday. Pouring water to each other, all people got wet, excluded a boy. He stood away from the battlefield and became the only observer of the battle. Why he did not grab a water gun? There were a number of reasons. He said ‘Oh. It is not healthy. Getting wet make us cough, sneeze and finally get cold. And is so wasteful that drinking water is used in playing.’ Everybody were exciting but he was angry. The only similarity of them was that they were crazy. The reason that the boy failed to enjoy the game is not the content of the game. It is the mind of the boy. I mean, he only thought about the disadvantage but not benefit. From the story, we know that if we keep on being pessimistic, we will not enjoy and even join the game. Thinking positive is the key to have a fulfilled university life. So try to control you mind and be optimistic in the university, as well as in the rest of your life. That’s all I want to share, thank…
