Student Mentors
Wisconsin has started to sue the parents of some school bullies. Parents are not happy about it although they have been given a warning. After the warning if the problem still persists, then the parents will get sued. Is this the right way to deal with bullies in school? Now schools have considered using student mentors to pair up with a bully. Bullies are not a force to be reckoned with. Several schools have tried multiple ways to declare themselves a “bully free zone” but none have had the best impact. When the wisconsin schools started suing, the bullying increased, and the schools started to notice that in reality, parents do not have full control of their child’s behavior. Some schools such as Cloonan middle school have started using student …show more content…
Bullying in schools is a serious problem. For example, most school absences are caused from a student being bullied. To help this, Cloonan middle school will mentor bullies to improve the overall atmosphere of the school. According to students at Cloonan middle school, using student mentors has improved the mood of the school. (Daltons 2) This shows that student mentors for bullies will help to declare schools a “bully free zone” because in a survey, several students said that using student mentors have improved the overall atmosphere of the school. So now, schools are switching to student mentors instead of teachers figuring it out because of the great impact. Many times teachers and adults do not know about bullying when it’s happening. As a solution, Cloonan middle school has started to use a “bully box” to report situations that may not have been noticed by a teacher or other adults.(Daltons 2) This shows that “bully boxes” have helped schools report incidences that have not been seen because now teachers are aware of what has happened between students. In conclusion, when student mentors are used, grades and behaviors increase because when surveys were sent out, students said that the overall atmosphere is better, and solutions to bullying are

I believe that I am qualified to be a peer mentor because I live by the saying “Abstain to Attain” everyday. As a young adult among so much peer pressure, it is hard not to cave in. I understand though, drugs, sex, and drinking alcohol isn’t worth it. I have too much to lose in life if I get pregnant at a young age, or if I become an alcoholic or a drug addict. My family is counting on me as well. I will be a first generation student and I will not let them down because I gave into peer pressure and went down the wrong path.…

In the article by John Cloud, “The Myths of Bullying,” he expresses the exaggeration of the supposed growing “epidemic” of bullying that is spreading across schools. He then begins by presenting two stories that relate to bullies and victims of bullying in their own right. One of which is about a shooting at Chardon High School, Ohio, where 5 students were shot and 3 killed. The other is about a suicide at Rutgers University where the victim was supposedly tormented by his roommate causing him to jump off the G.W. Bridge. Following these events and a couple more, measures have been rushed into place in response to these tragedies--furthering the idea of a growing bullying epidemic. Though, this is most likely an exaggeration as the U.S Department of Justice reported about 37% of students reporting that they do not feel safe at school. However, these figures have remained stable the way they are over the years, supporting the fact that the bullying epidemic is just an exaggeration.…

I am sure that we can all, regretfully, think of an incident where you or someone you know have been bullied. Whether it was being called a derogatory name, being singled out because of your race, or even somebody saying something inappropriate about you on facebook. All of these examples are far too familiar in today’s society. So familiar, in fact, that statistics show that one out of every four teens face problems with bullying on a daily basis, whether it is mentally, verbally or physically (Fox,3). Bullying has not only ruined the lives of victims, but also ruined the lives of the bullies themselves. Many people do not understand the negative effects bullying has on oneself and/or their family until they are actually involved in a bullying situation. Bullying is a fact of modern society, however, knowing the psychological and even physical effects that bullying can cause, preventative measures should be taken by parents, teachers and school administrators to abolish bullying for good.…

In these times of rapid change in healthcare, there is an increasing demand on nurses to effect change themselves, through effective leadership. The environment of palliative care is evolving as a result of such factors as government policies, advances in medical technology, an increasingly elderly population and the rise of chronic sickness. Another important factor is a more knowledgeable and demanding public. Nurses are no longer expected ‘just’ to focus on the here and now, and co-ordinate day-to-day activities. They are also exhorted to be innovative, creative and able to inspire others into accepting their own organization’s vision in providing an excellent patient service. Nursing needs leadership that encourages a collective opinion about what the nursing issues are in health care from a variety of individuals at all levels. Rather than separating a nurse manager from her/his fellow professionals we need to develop a culture which unites them (Castledine, 2004)…
