In the last decade, thousands of immigrants have transferred to cities for better jobs, education, and more opportunities. This led to the increase in the number of people coming into urban areas and due to this change urban areas have become overpopulated. Urban area is an area that is highly populated and overpopulation is when there are too many people in a specific area commonly in cities. Overpopulation usually happens in urban areas because more people can fit in a small area since there are skyscrapers, tall buildings that can fit in many families to live and the houses are nearby each other in cities. Significant number of immigrants moved to the urban parts of a country because of the belief that urban areas are places with more resources such as jobs and better education. This is because the school cannot provide every student the resource that they need to succeed. For example, if an overcrowded school wants to provide tutors for the students, it is impossible for them to provide a tutor to every student in that school due to the lack of funding. Only a few of the students will receive the resource. However, the rest which is more than half of the students will not succeed. Soltani states in her article, “Schools are overcrowded and run-down. Students proceed through high school never meeting with a counselor because there aren't any left”. This evidently shows that although resources are provided in an overcrowded schools, not everyone have the chance to use that resource because of the overload on that resources. This affects students’ failure because they do not have an equal opportunity to use resources which means they cannot learn as much as the students in a small class size.
