To begin, requiring 75 hours of community service could be a disservice to students because it could hold many back from graduating. A lot of students have a very busy schedule and might not be able to do the required amount of time of community service. It may be mandatory to go somewhere or to do something such as, work, sports, and family occasions. They wouldn't be able to attend the voluntary work. Community service can lower students grades because of a lack of time to do homework and a lack in study habits. This can hurt a students' grades and record. In addition, physically and mentally disabled high school students might not be able to participate in community service and they may have to stay back.
The quality of the community service work might not be the best if the students are forced to do the 75 hours of work. The students may not want to do it, so they may not give the same effort as volunteers would. Other students think they will waste their senior year or social events (prom, football games, etc.) You wouldn't want to miss out on preparing for the prom or the last football game of the season! If there are more students then community service spots, then students might not be able to choose which one they want to do. This may cause anger wherein the students may rebel and not work well. In addition to holding back students, pressure and stress is a disservice to the students.
Lastly, the pressure and stress from so many activities could cause many problems. For instance, a senior A+ student who also is a varsity football captain, may have to keep up his grades, go to work, play on a football team, help out at home and have a social life. Now add 75 hours of community service. His schedule is even more filled up then before! If the community service was voluntary, then some students who have the time, could do that, but people who do have other things to do, don't need the added stress of homework, midterms, finals, and projects are also a cause of stress. This is also a health problem. Teenagers are supposed to get about 9 1/2 hours of sleep a night. Well, if they have to come home from school and do about an hour of community service, two hours of sports, and then spend the rest of the night on homework, they won't be able to get the needed rest. Students may start bad sleeping habits from staying up very late and maybe even sleeping disorders!
As a result, forcing students to complete 75 hours of community service is a disservice to them. This requirement could hold too many otherwise eligible students
back from graduating. It could also cause the quality of work to decrease and increase the stress and pressure put on high school teens. High school is the place for students to learn the fundamentals of knowledge. Grades should be enough of a requirement to assess this.

In Dave Egger text “Serve or Fail”, argues that college students should be required to volunteer in community service. Egger explains that college is too short to sit back and waste their time with no commitments to any activities in the community. In his college days, Egger became a professional at various sports, but later in life; he wonders about the impact he could have done for his community instead wasting time playing sports. He also argues that volunteer hours can be counted as credits not just for the requirement. He supports his argument by showing the statistics of how many hours that students could do in exchange for one class credit. Students can spend times outside of class and they might learn more in…

If the opportunity to make some difference in the community presents itself, would you not have the desire to? Particularly when it concerns the wellbeing of not only adolescents, but all citizens in the community. Even if you do not have kids, all of us can relate because we were all kids once. The idea that kids under the age of eighteen ought to be free to roam the streets after 10 p.m. is faulty as it fails to protect everyone. A curfew for adolescents will bring them valuable boundaries which can transfer into other areas of their lives. Some may have no boundaries or discipline at home and at least they will learn to respect this…

A policy such as this denies kids their fundamental rights as a student, and I view it as an equality problem. Depriving kids who do not have a B average or above of the opportunity to participate in after-school activities creates a caste system that would stigmatize students who do not make the mark. If this policy were in place now, I myself would not be able to participate in any activities, clubs, or sports due to my grade average. Those activities are the places students make friends and find a safe fun environment to socialize and express themselves in the stressful pressure of a high school day. Speaking from experience, without something to look forward to during or at the end of a six-hour school day of tedious lectures and clocks ticking at the pace of molasses, removing these activities would decrease the students’ desire to want to learn or even be in a school setting. This could then backlash and drive the cycle of bad grades.…

Should the United States require all adults to perform one year of community service by the age of 30? I personally think this is a topic that is not at all, relevant. I believe if someone wants to lend a helping hand, then they should lend a helping hand. If you don't prefer to do this kind of community service, the government shouldn't force you to do so. There would be a lot of change in how community service is done today if the government required at least one year to be served by the age of 30.…

For the students who want to me in medicine is hard enough with all of the years of schooling, but adding a year of service for that is just a waste of time. I understand that our wonderful needs our help to keep it wonderful, but forcing students is not the way to go. Finally, this program would quickly overload students with work. With extra classes, the students involved in this program would find themselves quickly receiving more work than they could possibly accomplish. This would lead to lower grades, which means being dropped from the program. Even if they stayed up late to do the work, it would lead to the student becoming tired during school, which would also lead to being kicked out of the program. Not only that, but colleges would notice this and not offer scholarships to these students.…

School hours need to be shortened. Teachers have to spend lots of time at school, Students get bored near the end of classes and stop paying attention, and the time teens waste in school not paying attention could be used to exercise. Some people say that time should not be shortened because teachers wouldn't have enough time to teach all of the material, but I do not agree because the reason it takes so long is because teens get confused, which happens because the classes are long and they zone out during class and miss information. Most people in high school have jobs, so it would be difficult for them to work around that and have to change their schedule. If they can't manage a way around it, then they would have to quit their job and won't make any money. Additionally, most boys and girls through elementary, middle, and high school do some kind of sport, no matter if it's dance, softball, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, and many more. Doing sports takes a lot of time and commitment, and if we have after school activities we most likely would have a hard time doing sports with it. With sports, homework, possibly jobs, and maybe hard things going on at home, that is way too much on one kids plate. Having all that to do would make me stressed a lot and it would be hard for me to focus on all of that at one time. When people get stressed, it's hard to sleep, and eat, and then they become depressed, nobody wants that for there life.…
