Study Abroad
I believe that college is a time for learning, but not only about academics. In my opinion, it is a time for learning about ones own self. Personal growth and development are key components of the college years and I am convinced that a study abroad experience would offer endless possibilities toward accomplishing those ends.
Ever since I was a young girl, I have dreamed of living in a foreign country. I always knew that I wanted to go abroad and study in an European country while in college. Something about being independent and exploring the unknown always appealed to me. Now, although my ideal destination has changed from Europe to America, I still seek to fulfill that childhood dream. I continue to have a strong desire to explore the world around me and to learn and experience a foreign people and their culture.
Studying abroad was a thoughtful decision for me. I have reached a point in my life where I want to see beyond the walls of my own everyday lifestyle and way of thinking and experience something new. I would also very much like to improve my English language skills. Now, in our changing and internationalizing world, it has become even more important than ever to communicate with people around the globe. And American English seems to be the language of choice with a great percentage of the world. Studying abroad in America allows me so many opportunities to improve my English as I would be immersed into the American culture.
While in America I would like to be much more than a foreign student. Although I do have different looks and my English is not in superb condition, I would like to attempt to become a part of American society and participate in the everyday activities of a American student. While in America I would also like to fulfill various academic goals. Along with becoming proficient in the English language, I would like to complete a degree of Finance. I think that it will be both extremely interesting and beneficial to look at and learn Finance from a different cultural perspective.
Study abroad is absolutely a period of new discovery and adventure. My time at the University of Utah has already been filled with much adventure and personal discovery. I look forward with great anticipation and excitement to the adventures that await me in America.

It is always great to experience other diversities and their costumes. This can most certainly give me the chance to be very open minded to the whole world. I understand that languages can be very difficult to learn, however, that is exactly what I want. I want to know how my mother felt when she moved to the United States without having any knowledge of the language, how much she had to struggle, and what she did to seek for help. I hope to come back home and tells others about my experiences while study abroad. I intend to impact other students to also consider study abroad as one of their life options while attending their school careers. With my experiences in study abroad, I’m hoping that I will open doors for students whom would want to do this, and that there are many resources to help you reach this dream like this one. Coming from very low income parents also will target a certain group of students who have always desire to take courses in other countries, and I hope to impact them as…

My father passed away due to a stroke when I was in middle school so my mother had to work two jobs to support my brother and I. I recently had a house fire around December 2016 so this may not be the best time to study abroad but I figure, if not now, then when? My mother did not support me in this decision at first. It took me awhile to convince her to let me go. Ultimately, she wants me to pursue what makes me happy. While I am pursuing my passions, I am sure this decision will hit me financially when I get back to the States. A whole academic year is a long time but it is necessary. You are not really experiencing and learning about a culture unless you stay there for an extended period of time. This is what I have decided to do and I will make up for it by working more jobs upon my return to the States. I am sure that I will not have any regrets on this decision to study abroad. My first study abroad experience did put me on a financial crisis but I regretted nothing from that decision. It was also a low cost to pay at the time in exchange for the…

In the course Study Abroad: Learning Through Engagement, I was required to write a reentry report depicting how studying abroad changed me and my perspective on the world. In my report I made the claim that, “Studying abroad is an integral part of higher education.” According to Wayne C. Booth (et al) this claim, though vague, is a practical claim because it first addresses a problem, “caused by some condition in the world,” it contains an ‘undesirable consequence’, of that condition, and to avoid this problem, a call to action for my readers (53-54).…
