I knew that TAMIU always promoted studying abroad and offered many opportunities, yet it still felt like an idea and not a reality until the beginning of the Spring 2018 semester. However, I believe it is extremely important for students in South Texas in order to break society standards they believe hold them back. Students in South Texas are mostly Hispanic. Most people, as I used to, believe that studying abroad is impossible. Unfortunately, many Hispanics have to help provide for their families and also have to juggle school into the mix. It is extremely hard for them to experience studying abroad. People who are more fortunate enough and do not have to worry about sustaining their family still do not take the opportunity to study abroad. In my case, I will be the first one in my family to study abroad. Besides our neighboring country, my family has never been to another country. By taking this trip, I hope to inspire my peers and my family that they can do anything they put their mind to. Just like my Physics friends inspired me, I can inspire my close relatives to do what they dream. If more people from South Texas study abroad, they can inspire their close relatives and friends and cause a domino effect that will go on from generation to
