THE PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE
Introduction:
The extent of student’s learning in academics may be determined by the grades that a student earns for a period of learning has been done. It is believed that a grade is a primary factor that indicates of such learning. If a student earns high grades it is concluded that they may also have learned a lot while low grades indicate lesser learning. However, many experiences and studies found out that there are also several factors that would affect the grades. It has been interplay of three factors the Behavior towards Academic task, Time management, and Resourcefulness. In fact, almost all of existing environmental and personal factors are a variable of academic performance However, at this point in time, the researcher would like to investigate the possible relationship of study habits and the factors affecting it to the academic achievement of third year engineering Students of Saint Joseph Institute of Technology. The investigation of on this area thus becomes a real and compelling motivation for the researcher

The quality of a nation depends upon the quality of its citizens. The quality of citizens depends on the quality of their education and quality of education besides other factors depends upon study habits of the learners. Quality of education is reflected through academic achievement which is a function of study habits of the students. Thus to enhance the quality of education, it is necessary to improve the study habits of the students. To improve study habits, those factors are needed to be identified which affect these characteristics adversely. Identification of these factors may lead towards remedial measures. To identify factors having negative effect on study habits, to propose remedial measures and to employ strategies for the development of good study habits well organized guidance services are needed in schools.
