"Studying the Chemical Composition of Milk-Like Water at Barangay Maragatas, Lupon, Davao Oriental.
CHAPTER I
INRODUCTION
Water is very important in life. It is used for drinking, for washing hands, for cooking, for watering plants and many more. It is the most important element of all. But people are not 100% sure of its purity. It might be contaminated or undrinkable. So, there are those people who wanted to study its components. This can be done through water analysis. In determining the quantities of the various chemicals present in the water, water analysis is needed (Zinni, Y. n.d.). According to the royal Australian chemical Institute, different techniques are used to measure distinct components: (Iodometric Method, Chloride Ion Concentration by Titration, and Colorimetric Phosphate Determination) and analysts need to follow strict procedures to obtain reliable results. Another method to be used for water analysis is Optical Measurements. This method involves measuring the intensity of a specific color in a solution which helps determine analyze concentration (Braybury, L. n.d.). In this study water analysis will be used.

The objectives of this lab include- illustrating the use of the spectrophotometer in chemical analysis, and generating a standard, or calibration curve, then using that curve to determine the value of an unknown substance. The spectrophotometer is one of the most powerful tools used in chemistry to find the concentration of substances in solution. It compares the colors of a known and an unknown solution, that comparison then leads to a quantitative estimate of the concentration of trace amounts of colored materials in that solution.…

Water is only safe depending on the chemical ingredients. When water is analysed, you can measure the amount of contamination and how much of the water you will then have to filter and clean. Titration is used for this analysis. Specialised titration equipment is used to measure ammonia levels with other reactants to find out which other chemicals are present.…

    1. The first step in getting water is of course finding a water source. Whether it be a lake, stream or the ocean it will provide you with some sort of hydration. Now I know you will be tempted to find food first to crave your hunger, but that would be a mistake. You can live without food for 2 weeks but only 2-4 days without water.…

It is a fact that without water in severe conditions, you could last less than 24 hours, but may last as long as 3 or 4 days. Food depends on your body type, of course. Generally, heavier people last longer - assuming that they store more water - than most people can go for at least a week without food though. However, will Mark learn to survive on his own in the desert, or is his life suddenly faced against life or death? The Transall Saga is a speculative/science fiction written by Gary Paulsen. When Mark goes out on a hiking trip in the desert, he is enclosed in an abnormal blue light and transported to what appears to be another world. He's injured in the tribulation, and must recover while trying to stay alive. Once he's well enough to move around more freely, he makes discoveries, namely monkey-like creatures and fruit, as well as evidence of people. One day, he is seized and imprisoned by a group of indigenous people. As time…

The hypothesis for the vinegar hypothesis was if there is vinegar in the surface water then, I think that when passed through soil it will still remain in the groundwater. My laundry detergent hypothesis was if there is laundry detergent in the surface water then, when it is passed through soil it will still have traces of laundry detergent in the groundwater. The next experiment’s hypothesis was that using particular chemicals and methods of filtration, we should be able to remove most of the contaminates that are in the groundwater. This was the experiment that involved different methods of Water Treatment. The final experiment pertained to the drinking water quality and my hypothesis was that tap water will contain the most contaminates because of its path and unknown condition. The bottles of water are in a more sterile environment. The Dasani water is treated and Fiji comes from a natural spring. The treated water (Dasani) will have the least amount of…

Lab two experiments are dealing with the water quality and contamination. The water quality of water refers to the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of water. Experiment one refers to the effects of groundwater contamination. There were a total of 8 beakers that were separated in to two groups. Group one had beakers one through four and the second was five through eight. 1-4: If chemicals are added to the tab water, then the consistency, color, and smell will change. 5-8: If the potty soil and cheese cloth are used as a filter, then the water level decrease and stay clean. The first was regular tap water with no color or smell. In beakers two through four there was chemicals added to change the water quality. The chemicals that were added were 10ml of oil, vinegar, and soap, which then change the color, consistency, and smell of the water. In beakers five through eight the contents of one through four were filtered using cheese cloth and 240ml of soil.…

Introduction: A solution is as a homogeneous mixture containing two or more substances. Reagents are added to solutions to create a chemical reaction or added to see if anything occurs. Reagents can be added to solutions to see if there is a presence of other substances. For example, iodine added to a lead solution. Iodine would be the reagent and would cause a chemical reaction confirming the presence of lead. We use a qualitative chemical analysis to identify elements present in the solutions, in this case, adding a reagent. A quantitative chemical analysis is used to determine the percentage of a substance in the solutions. Solvation is the process of the attraction between…

Background: According to the Millennium Development Goals Report 2012, 783 million people, or 11 per cent of the global population, remain without access to an improved source of drinking water. Also the United Nations has long been addressing the global crisis caused by insufficient water supply to satisfy basic human needs and growing demands on the world’s water resources to meet human, commercial and agricultural needs (un.org). In this experiment water quality and contamination of groundwater was investigated. First, I observed the effects that many pollutants have on groundwater. I predict that in this experiment the oil and vinegar will create the large amount of contamination in the water, while the laundry detergent will just create an aroma smell to it. Considering the smells and color to these ingredients I think that it will cause the water quality to have a bad smell and cause the water to be very cloudy. Once filtering the contaminated water, the water will be clear and purified. Second, I will experiment water treatment and filtering. I predict that once the contaminated water is treated and filtered that it will leave me with less contamination or none at all. Then for the last experiment, I will determine the difference between bottled water and tap water to discover any contamination. I predict that the tap water will be the most contaminated and with the most chemicals in it, while the bottled waters; Dasani and Fiji will be completely filtered and free of any chemicals.…

Experiments were done on the water quality and the contamination of groundwater. First, I observed the effects that different pollutants had on groundwater. I predicted that the experiments with the oil and vinegar would create the most contaminations to the water. When the laundry detergent were mixed with the groundwater, it created a light green color with a pleasant smell. The second water treatment experiment were about filtering techniques to remove contaminants from water. I predicted to drain the water by removing all the contaminants by using a funnel to purify the water. The last experiment were performed using Dasani, and Fiji bottled water and Tap water to determine the quality of drinking water. I also predicted that tap water would leave the least amount of contaminants and the Fiji bottled water would have the most contaminants.…

A solution is composed of a solute dissolved into a solvent. The most common solvent is water. Determining the components and concentrations of solutes in a solution is carried out through a variety of techniques known as spectroscopy. Spectroscopy is the analysis of spectra, typically light or mass spectra, where the spectrum of a source is used to determine the composition of a substance. There are many different spectroscopic methods including circular dichroism, mass spectrometry, Raman, spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy. A UV-Vis spectrophotometer measures absorbance, which is related to the transmittance of light through a solution. Absorbance is the measure of light intensity that is absorbed by a sample. A=log Io/I is the calculation. Beer’s law mathematically expresses the relationship between absorbance and sample concentration. Absorbance and concentration are directly are proportional. A Beer’s law plot is a graph showing the linear relationship between absorbance and concentration that can be fit to a straight line from which the concentration of an unknown sample can be calculated. A colorimeter is a type of…
