Sutton Foster believed in the show, Thoroughly Modern Millie, more than, Eponine in Les Miserables, because despite the money Foster went with what felt right to her.
Sutton Foster also wanted to be apart of Throughly Modern Millie's creation. Foster wanted to contribute to the show, and choosing to be in the ensemble over having a role, shows how much she appreciated and favored the show.
2. The consequences for Sutton Foster and Kristen Chenoweth decisions were both extremely similar. Both Foster and Kristen got offered two roles to act in. Foster had a choice between money or what felt right and Chenoweth had a choice between popularity of a Broadway show or her gut. In the end, both women went with their
gut instinct and ended up wining Tony Awards. One for best actress in a musical and the other for best actress featured in a musical.
3. The phrase "trust your gut" to me, means to trust in yourself, to trust in your intuition. Soly relying on what you think 'is a for sure thing' may not always the best decision. When you trust in yourself and your intuition, just like Foster and Kristen did, you are trusting in facts that have been filed away by your subconscious mind. Things are not always what they seem and when something feels off, it usually is.
