Subjects Such as Art, Music and Drama Should Be Part of Every Child's Basic Education.
Subjects such as art, music and drama should be part of every child's basic education.
The topic present here states that subjects like art, music and drama should be a part of every child's basic education. I agree with it. I believe that subjects like these give children a new dimension of thinking and a scope of being creative. Creativity is as essential as academics.
Firstly and most importantly, subjects like art, music and drama help in basic education itself. For example, drama helps in improving a child's vocabulary. It also helps in improving the verbal ability which is very essential in today's times of stiff competition where, speaking fluently and coherently has become an essential talent. Also, drama helps students remember the big works of literature like Shakespeare's Romeo-Juliet with ease. It is always easy to remember what we see than what we read. Similarly, music helps in improving the math ability. It also inculcates a sense of timing like when to hit the beat, when to strum the chords and so on. Also, it is easier to remember poems in form of a song, than simply trying to mug it up. Art brings about a sense of awareness about the surrounding among children. It teaches them the importance of cherishing what is present around them like nature, friends, family.
Secondly, such subjects also play an important role in enhancing the creativity of a child. Strumming a new tune or adding tune to lyrics requires creativity. Art is highly appreciated if it is innovative. One is required to think out of the box while painting or sculpting so that one can catch the eye of audience. Similarly, giving a twist to a hackneyed drama or bringing to notice an issue present in the society in a way that people really get engrossed and understand its consequences also requires tremendous amount of innovation and creativity.
Thirdly, these subjects have their own story, a history behind them, which can be well understood if one learns it. Arts has for long

It is important to encourage children and young people to recognise and value creativity to enable the children and young people to make decisions by themselves, to learn from their mistakes and to be able to learn to make choices. This may be from choosing which materials to use in craft, from choosing how to dance to a piece of music and making their own musical instruments. It allows the child to be able to express themselves and to be able to think about new ideas and encourages the child to try new ideas and things.…

I, myself am interested in the educational system and how it both positively and negatively affects students. I found that Ken and myself shared similar viewpoints, however he went into so much depth that it even further opened my mind. This talk impacted me much more than I thought it would; I realized that I have not really thought about it in as much detail as I anticipated. I have become more aware of not only how much the current educational system will affect the future of my generation but upcoming generations and their future. One thing about Ken’s talk that surprised me was the fact the all around the world, the curriculum is the same; all educational systems prioritize the same subjects - the subjects that allow you to prosper, rather, as opposed to the arts. It led me to thinking about how important it is to change the way the curriculum works before it is too late. My mind started to really ponder on all the times that the sciences were immensely stressed, much more than any art based subject. To actually participate in what I was passionate about, in secondary school I had to join a dance program because there were not many options for dance among the “regular” classes. One hundred years from now the world will be full of a completely different population, who may or may not get the chance to see how creative and intelligent young children truly are. The worst case scenario is that due to this ignorance, children will never be given the opportunity to explore their creative minds due to the current limiting educational system. This information has pushed me in a direction to keep a close eye on my younger cousins, who have just recently begun their educational journey. I will ask them questions about their experiences in school revolving around what they do in school, whether they are ever asked to stop doing something they enjoy,…

I also encourage my students to be creative in thier thinking as well as in their actions and learning. Children should have the access to materials such as markers, crayons, paint, pencils, and paper. By having these materials being accessible, it will allow them to explore and be creative in their own ways. I play different genres of music including music from other countires and in different languages. Playing music encourages them to dance and play freely and that is also a way for youth to use their gross motor skills. In my…

I believe that Arts education is an important part of every student’s education for many reasons. If it were up to me I would make art and/or music a one semester class or if students wanted too, a full year mandatory class and is required for you to graduate high school. In elementary schools, art or music was a fun class with no homework and easy assignments; I didn’t know anyone who didn’t like those classes. Having to take these classes again in high school would be a good thing for most students because it would be time for you to relax or help you get all your thoughts together again. Another reason why I think Arts education is important is because it will help students creativity, perseverance, non verbal communication skills, or a…
