Substance Abuse Case Study Daniel
According to the Census Bureau Guidelines, the Solomon family is living below the poverty guidelines. Daniel has been declared indigent and is receiving public defender services for all criminal matters.

Foster Care and Child Protective Services:

Daniel has never been in foster care and the Solomon’s reported not having any contact with Child Protective Services.

Education

Daniel is currently enrolled in school full-time at Chesapeake Juvenile Services. Prior to being detained Daniel was enrolled as a 10th grader at Churchland High School. He self-reported a dislike for school due to “drama” and would like to pursue his General Education Development (GED) certificate. Daniel reported he would skip class at least once a week.

He has never participated in treatment for alcohol or other drug use but is receptive to participation in such a program. He denied having a substance abuse problem, but stated he would go to treatment if he was court ordered.

Mental and Physical Health

Daniel and his parents report Daniel has been diagnosed as having Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It was reported Daniel is currently taking Adderall, Clonidine and Vyvanse. Daniel has shown no indications of homicidal ideation and no indications of suicidal thoughts. There is no evidence that he was ever physically or sexually abused. There are no indications that he has been sexually aggressive.

Aggression/Violence

With respect to his temperament, Daniel recognizes that most people do not have malicious intentions, and he sometimes gets upset over small things. He believes violence is sometimes appropriate, but believes verbal aggression is rarely appropriate. He denies ever being violent, but reported he will defend himself if someone is being violent towards
