The Solutions of Substance Abuse
Among Teens and Young Adults Teens and drug use is always a popular problem being discussed everywhere, and now it’s becomimg more and more serious among teenagers in the United States, the number of reported drug abusers has gradually increased. It is more evident that solutions are needed to help young adults with this issue. 1. Drug treatment interventions 2. Community input and 3. Family support could help solve young adult’s problem with substance abuse. Drug treatment is a well-known intervention to help educate addicts about the physical and psychological aspect of the disease of addiction. There are several ways a family can be active in supporting the teen’s drug use. Family sessions weekly or monthly where the entire family take part in experimental therapies to help the teen’s recovery process. Parents should have one on one talks with teens primarily focusing on any changes in behavior or attitude. It is very important to also watch closely at the type of friends they hang out with, and talking about peer pressure related to drug use in general. Parents play a huge role in teaching the teen to be responsible for their own actions and behaviors. This includes making healthy and responsible decisions around drug use or asking for help. Having family outings and spending quality time with the young adult will make a big difference in how they feel about themselves being loved and accepted by family. This will help with self-esteem and leadership skills and may cause the teen to gain self-awareness and not have to “follow the crowd”.
