To accomplish this purpose the coaching and management staff is tasked with helping each apprentice develop their sport specific and athlete-specific High-Performance skills. Sport specific development includes engendering technical ability that allows for play on the square inch, creating tactical/spatial awareness so each apprentice understands positional responsibility both on and off the ball, and building the mental strength/toughness required in gaining that extra edge over others in practice, competition and in all walks of life. Athlete-specific development includes but is not limited to: physical conditioning, physiological development through the usage of work-rest ratios that labor specific energy systems, formation of neurophysiological connections that produce an end result with maximum certainty and a minimum outlay of time and energy, psychological tools including goal-setting, visualization and self-talk, and social skills that facilitate interaction and communication with others. Resulting from the evolving coach-player relationship, a key component of the RTC-SK program is to maintain a coaching staff that - enthuses, involves, and engages the apprentice throughout their soccer journey. Developing athletes through the use of external motivation and using authority to impose hierarchical views on every situation is in direct…

I grew up in a family where I was constantly told “girls should not play sport”. It has been very challenging for me from a very young age but other people’s opinions never stopped me doing what I wanted to do. Instead of letting it have a negative impact on me, playing sports gave me the drive and motivation to set myself challenging but realistic goals not only in my performance but goals regarding my current life affairs. As I grew older I started questioning how humans are able to carry out certain skills and movements within sport. This helped me gain an interest in trying to understand how the human body works.…
90 minutes to make or break your season. The grass under your cleats when arriving at the pitch. Wind blowing through jerseys while sprinting to get the ball. The silky feel of your school colors on your sweaty skin. The thrill achieved by that one perfect kick straight into the feet of the waiting teammate right next to the goalie's box. The skill and precision that goes into one sport that the world goes crazy for. Imagine dribbling across the length of the pitch and passing the ball, waiting for that pass back to complete the two-touch the team has been practicing endlessly. The ball is coming straight at you at break-neck speed. It’s too high to stop with your feet, what do you do? You breathe, take a look at your coach who is chewing ferociously…

Lots of people think that competitive sports aren’t good for kids but other people think that competitive sports are good for kids. I take the position that competitive sports are good for kids because it helps kids build self esteem, second it teaches them how to work with a group, and the third and most important reason is that it helps them live a healthy lifestyle.…
As the young and naive children we were, adults always told us to never give up on our dreams. This statement usually applied to the impractical dreams of becoming president of the United States, transforming into a superhero, or playing alongside professional athletes. These were all big ideas and aspirations that fueled our carefree childhoods, and were appropriate practice for shaping the paths to our true passions we discover later on in our lives; particularly in high school. High school is where teenagers are able experiment and begin to understand themselves as individuals, rather than what everybody else likes to do. Of course there are exceptions to those who are the “followers” rather than the “leaders”, but I’d like to claim I had…
As a coach there are a lot of things that you come across throughout a season. To help you with all of the obstacles that may come up during the season you have to set a coaching philosophy to help you with the obstacles. Some of the items that I will have in my philosophy is my coaching style, teaching my athletes proper sportsmanship, expectations for myself and my athletes. My coaching philosophy will always consist if having my athletes best interest at heart. I do not want to have atheles have prolonged injuries due to my lack of knowledge or lack of caring.…
Have you ever imagined not having a coach for your sports team? Or why your coach is so successful? Even though they are very demanding, they’re essential for any team’s success. “I demand a lot out of my players, but we have fun and I give them room to learn and make mistakes,” said Coach Mike Bates. They provide structure and are the heart and souls of each team. Coaches have to love the game. The team reflects the coach, if he’s successful so will you be. The coach needs to be disciplined and teach the fundamentals of the game. They should instill moral values into the team.…
