OVERSEAS STUDY TOUR OF DSCSC COURSE NO 7 – INDONESIA
INTRODUCTION
1. There are various methods of acquiring knowledge about an object, place or phenomenon. These could be categorized as follows:
a. Attending a course.
(1) External.
(2) Internal.
b. Listening to a lectures.
c. Conducting experiments.
d. Conducting research.
e. Participating in discussion.
f. Engaging in a distance learning program.
g. Undertaking individual personal studies.
h. Physically visiting places.
2. It should be noted that one of the better ways to learn about something unknown to you is to physically visit the place of interest. We being the student officers of the Defence Services Command and Staff College were fortunate to visit Indonesia and gain vast amount of knowledge about that country.

3. Indonesia officially the Republic of Indonesia is a sovereign state in Southeast Asia and Oceania. Indonesia is an archipelago comprising approximately 17,508 islands. It encompasses 34 provinces with over 238 million people, making it the world's fourth most populous country. Indonesia's republic form of government comprises an elected legislature and president. The nation's capital city is Jakarta. The country shares land borders with Papua New Guinea, East Timor, and Malaysia. Other neighboring countries include Singapore, Philippines, Australia, Palau, and the Indian territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Indonesia is a founding member of ASEAN and a member of the G-20 major economies. The Indonesian economy is the world's 16th largest by nominal GDP.
