Sue Monk Kidd: The Secret Life of Bee’s Very rarely do readers ever come across a book that they can relate to in various ways. The Secret Life of Bees is a captivating novel that uses extraordinary characters that engage readers to continue the novel. It influences them in ways that may change their experience of life. Sue Monk Kidd gives the main character, Lily Owens, many traits that which make this book even more delightful and exciting to read and more relatable for readers. The student believes that the use of strong characters in The Secret Life of Bees is what makes the book so intriguing and interesting to read. With Lily Owens being a young teenager and having issues with her mother, many young girls can relate to her problems not only with their own mothers, but with their own life, also having Lily as the main character, it shows that a white person can love a black person, regardless of what others say and it shows that anyone can overcome hardships with a bit of trust and hard work.
