Sue's Phonic Acquisition

Sue’s native language is Spanish. Although she will have the Spanish accent many of the sounds are similar some sounds she will have a problem with is the sound /j/ because in the Spanish vocabulary /j/ is pronounced as /h/ (Language Transfers). There are quite a few more that she will have trouble learning. Another issue she will have is writing sentences in English because English sentence structure is subject-verb-object. In English, the adjective comes before the noun not after like in Spanish (Shmoop Editorial Team. 2008). Sue will also encounter many issues in her phonics transfer because there are a lot of sounds that are not the same.
The Spanish alphabet is based on Latin origin and has an extra letter in it. There are a few letters
in Spanish that have different sounds in English and Sue will get confused when trying to write words out. Although because English has Latin root words learning some words will be easier for Sue along with reading academic books with Latin words in them (Shoebottom, P. 2016). Also in the Spanish language double negatives are okay whereas in English it is frowned upon. Another difference is the ending of nouns depends on the gender of the person you are talking to or about, this can be confusing to change in language because all English words end the same way (Spanish and English: 10 Must-know Differences Between the Two).
Sue will find it fairly easy to learn how to speak English the issue she will find is writing English. The placement of different words will look and sound wrong to her, but in English it is correct. Another issue will be reading words because of the sounds that belong to different letters from Spanish to English.
