I watched the concert on February 26, 2011 at 7:00pm. The name of the music group was Toronto Sinfonietta, and the artistic director was Matthew Jaskiewicz. There were 10 soloists in total- Leslie Ashworth, Daniel Hass, Nicole Li, Amadeusz Kazubowski-Houston, Annie Zhou, Lily Chapnik, Sarah Velasco, Daniel Temnik, Kara Sojung Park and Anna Vertypolokh. The concert was performed at the Isabel Bader Theatre which is one of the most popular additions to the architectural renewal of the University of Toronto’s downtown campus. There are a total number of 500 seats. There were approximately 450 seats occupied. Some of the seats are on flat floor and some of seats are on the balcony.…
Simmons and Sutter’s research paper was prompted following the February 2007 tornadoes in Florida. Three tornadoes (two EF-3’s and one EF-1) spawned one after another between 3 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. across three Florida counties; Sumter, Lake, and Volusia respectively. As a result of the tornadoes, 21 fatalities occurred that night, leading researchers to investigate the root cause. Key takeaways were, all three…
Last Friday's raging storms brought back bad memories of the tornadoes that struck Indiana in April 1974. Known as the "Super Outbreak", that storm system is viewed as a benchmark by forecasters. "That outbreak alone helped fuel, kinda, the push to improve on not…
On April 7, 2017, I viewed the musical production, “The Great American Trailer Park Musical.” The director of the musical was Jimm Cox. The set designer was Barry Whitfield. Rich Robinson was the lighting designer. The poster designer was Slade Mullinax. The production was held at the Performing Arts Center located on the University of South Carolina Upstate campus.…
On Saturday, February 27, I attended a concert choir that was presented by the Department of Music and College of Liberal Arts; the title of the program was From Darkness to Light. There were eight songs that were performed by the choir, all of which were accompanied by a piano. The first song was Sure on this Shining Night by Samuel Barber, which possessed a medium-paced tempo. Throughout the song, there was an equal distribution between the male and female voices. The change in dynamics was very clear to the audience. As the dynamics gradually grew louder, the males and females sang in synchronization. The second song was If ye love me by Thomas Tallis; the song had a medium-paced tempo, but there were a few moments in which the choir would speed up and slow down. The soprano members of the choir were able to hit very high notes throughout the song.…
I went to see Overture to King Stephen, Op. 117 and Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 36, both composed by Ludwig van Beethoven and performed by Los Angeles Philharmonic at Disney Hall on December 31 2012. The music group consisted of about sixty-three bowed string instrumentalists, ten woodwind instrumentalists, nine brass instrumentalists and four percussion instruments and the conductor is Esa-Pekka Salonen.…
To the local community communication challenges took place because Mother Nature does not care about keeping today’s technology in working conditions. Once the power goes down what is the point of technology for citizens in the middle of the disaster area, they cannot receive information on where to go, if help is on the way. Because of Mother Nature’s way of approaching upon so many areas in the United States and around the world each community should start disaster programs to teach each person on survival, there are so many ways to communicate with community in learning techniques. Town meeting is one way to start, give demonstrations on how to take cover from Tornados, Fires and, of course Hurricanes. Most of us were taught in school the basic safety procedures during storms. Common knowledge during a tornado is to take cover in the lowest point of the home such as a basement or if no basement is accessible, then to remove yourself from any windows and doors because of the suction that…
I chose to do my Concert Critique on a local classic rock band, VIVA. The…
My desire to be a part of the Tri-M Music Honor Society is driven by a passion for performing music. Four years ago, with very little experience under my belt regarding music, I joined the Dracut High School Marching Band, not knowing the difference between the xylophone and the marimba. Little did I know that playing and performing music for myself and others would lead to who I am as a person now.…
The past weekend I attended a Rascal Flatts concert in Lexington Kentucky. Rascal Flatts is an American country band who has been together since the year of 2000 over a decade ago. The group is composed of Gary LeVox (lead vocals), Jay DeMarcus (bass guitar, keyboard, piano and vocals) and Joe Rooney (lead guitar and vocals). LeVox and DeMarcus are second cousins. The band has had many albums over the 12 years; Rascal Flatts (2000), Melt (2002), Feels Like Today (2004), Me and My Gang (2006), Stills Feels Good (2007), Greatest Hits Volume 1(2008), Unstoppable (2009), Nothing Like This (2010) and Changed (2012).…
Picture yourself in Tornado Alley, it’s a bright sunny day, you’re at the park having a great day with your children, then the tornado siren sounds. What do you do? It’s sunny outside, you look up and there are no clouds to be seen. Do you take cover or do you continue enjoying your day at the park? Is it 10 a.m. on a Monday morning, when they are testing the sirens? No, it is 3:37 p.m. on a Sunday afternoon. This is a serious problem that plagues the Midwest every spring. Sirens become common place and are often ignored, simply because most people have heard this siren more times than they can count, yet they have never once seen a tornado. Now, let us take a look at what happens when the tornado sirens sound and there is a real threat, yet people ignore it because, “Tornados don’t happen in Joplin”. (This essay will not be cited because it is all based on first-hand experience)…
When Joseph joined the band on the first day of school, he was excited to learn to play the trumpet. During the summer, his father had shown him some videos of a jazz trumpeter playing a complicated solo with her band and Joseph decided he wanted to be just like her someday.…
It was Monday, November 17 cold and snowy outside Ophelia Paris Concert Hall, Truman State University but inside it was all warmth and light as Elaine AuBuchon started the Double Reed Recital. Having not been to any actual classical music concert, I was excited to hear the talent that we have in our campus. I took it upon myself to go with an open mind, without having any previous predispositions that would affect my reaction to the concert. I just wanted to go in there, not knowing anything about the concert, and see what I hear in the music. This concert was open to anyone and free admission. The program presented a variety of styles…
