Development/Geographic Evolution Essay
The development f North America came to be when Christopher Columbus and the European explorers cashed into the Native Americans. However, the geographical evolution was some many millions of years before that. Geographical evolution came to be from the continental drift, and The Great Ice Age. The development of North America happened when people started moving to the Americas (Native Americans), and When the European explorers/settlers clashed with the Native Americans. First and foremost, the geographical evolution of North America came to be from the continental shift. Some 225 million years ago all the continents were one whole together, known as the Pangaea. The Pangaea existed in the early Paleozoic and the Mesozoic era. It formed approximately 300 million years ago, and began to break apart some 100 million years later. This is known as the continental drift. The continental drift formed the great landmasses such as Eurasia, Africa, Australia, Antarctica, and the Americas. The folding of the earth’s crust formed the earth’s mountains. However, the Appalachian Mountains were formed before the continental drift, some 350 million years ago. Geologically speaking, some 135 million to 25 million years ago, the majestic ranges of western North America known as, the Rockies, the Sierra Nevada, th Cascades, and the Coast Ranges. Although the geographical evolution of North America started with the continental drift, the Great Ice Age is as equally important. The Great Ice Age shaped the geological history of North America; also it contributed to the origins of the continents human history. The Great Ice Age began about 2 million years ago. Two-mile thick ice sheets blanketed Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Some 10,000 years ago, the glaciers started to retreat. The gargantuan ice mantle depressed the level of the Canadian Shield. Also, the large heavy moving and melting
