I’ve been told that only a person who has gotten straight A’s in school throughout their entire life would be the only people who could actually make it in this field. I’ve also been told that only people who take their work extremely seriously and only hang out with people with the same academic goals can make in this field also. I would like to find out why people think this is true and what it really takes to become successful in this field. I’ll start by talking to professors and students in the medical field to get their perspectives and try to get as much information

I knew that it would be a difficult major and that it would more than likely challenge me. I never really thought about how important the job is and how they have just as much impact on someone’s life just as much as the doctor. I always thought of anesthesiologist just as the person who easily puts someone to sleep before they went in surgery. I don’t really know what caught my attention about this career but over time I have gotten more and more interested in it and now I want to know everything there is to know about it. An anesthesiologist is a physician specializing in perioperative care, development of an anesthetic plan, and the administration of anesthetics. They provide care for patients undergoing surgery to prevent pain and distress they would experience. There are three different ways an anesthesiologist can go about this and that is general anesthesia, which is just putting the patient asleep. Sedation, which is using medications that make the patient calm or unaware of what is going on, and finally regional anesthesia which is injections to only the part of the body that will be operated …show more content…
After doing research I found out that this career is really no different than other careers. Just like other careers you have to be focused and know that this career is what you really want to do for the rest of your life. You still have to have fun with your work and you don’t have to overload your brain with tons of information. Most people in the medical field are fascinated with the things they learn and the do activities outside of class that still requires the skills learned insider of class. I learned you don’t have to only be associated with people in this field; you just have to know when enough is enough and it’s time for you to go back to your studies. You really would have to research this topic on your own and actually talk to people who have faced the obstacles and know what it is like. I had a lot of fun researching this topic and I found a lot of information that I knew nothing about. I will continue to search for anything else that could help me with my career because I am still interested in it and I want to know everything there possibly is to

It’s something you have to stay committed to no matter how hard it gets or how many people tell you your passion isn’t realistic. My passion is held in the medical field. Everything about it completely fascinates me and I never want to stop learning about it. Looking at my life five years down the road I hope to be working towards getting my Doctorate of Medicine. Before I attended HOBY I was thinking about giving this dream up based on the select people who told me I couldn’t achieve this goal and also how I was scared that I wouldn’t be talented or smart enough to get that far. Then Sarah Koehn shared the following quote with us, “Ignoring your passion is slow suicide. Never ignore what you heart pumps for. Mold your career around your lifestyle, not your lifestyle around your career.” This quote is the thing I never want to forget about HOBY. I hope that my greatest leadership strength in the future is not giving up on something that I believe in even if others don’t agree with…
