This reminds me a lot about my own family experience because I also helped my mom out by translating what she didn’t understand, reading the mail for her, going to school meetings to translate, it was very frustrating for me. I feel that Leila is also frustrated because she has to look out for her parents and make sure they do things how they are suppose to be done here, translating for them making sure her stepfather gets his…

From what I've been told, it was a still summer morning. With the sun just beginning to edge over the horizon the inevitable squawking of the local maggies was moments away. The last people from the previous night's boozing were slowly edging home between awkward stumbles and short breaks to send the recently consumed beverages and early morning munchies back up the way they'd came.…

We didn’t arrive at our destination until 5 o’clock the next afternoon, when the river deposited us on the nearby shore. It was now February 16th, and we had 2 days left in our journey. When we recovered from our river highway, we realized we were in the middle of a big city. We stood up and looked around to determine our location. We were in Baton Rouge, the capital of Louisiana. (Shook). I told Viviane that I wanted to spend the night here because we may not have another chance to get any sleep, so we found a cheap hotel we could stay at. It wasn’t too late yet, so we decided to go see something before we went to bed. A hotel worker suggested The Enchanted Mansion, a doll museum (Campbell). When we got to the museum, there weren’t very many…

Throughout my time reading this particular novel, I have hardly been able to accurately predict or infer the progression of the plot, characters, settings, or conflicts. This uncertainty of the dynamics of the literary elements has made it extremely difficult to call attention to the themes or morals. However, there must be some meaning hidden behind the seemingly random events strung together.…
